Evening Program
Welcome!
On behalf of the Redwood Day School Parents’ and Guardians’ Association, we welcome you to the 2011 Spring
Gala and Auction. The money raised tonight will be used to support vital programs at RDS such as supporting the
School’s financial aid budget, enhancing the assembly program, and agumenting professional development from
our amazingly talented faculty and staff.
This evening is the result of planning and hard work on behalf of so many people, some of whom started last
March! Not only has the auction team been hard at work but we owe a heart-felt thank you to our husbands
and children for picking up the slack and allowing us time to work. We want to take this opportunity to thank
Ray Marshall, Karen Van der Linden, Tracey Borst, Abigail Brown, Deborah Hamilton, Penny Fottrell, Jessie
Nakamura, Monica Lent, Andrea Roth, Dagmar Serota, Rachael Scholl, Michael Lonsdale, Mary Stallard, Ryan
Helton, Sarah Lehman, Cheryl Ting, Sarah Wachs, Angela Rundles and Katie Fagundes. We would also like to
thank the Claremont Staff and the merry bunch of volunteers from Crocker Highlands helping with table closing
and check out so that we could all enjoy the evening. Lastly, a special shout out to the Benhams and Butners for
graciously providing the wine, beer and soft drinks tonight.
This event would not have been possible without the generosity of you and our business community. Thank you
for your support. We would like to give special acknowledgement to our donors, many of whom are businesses in
our community, who gave their products and services generously to support our school. Please be sure to visit
their restaurants, shops and other establishments. When you do, tell them you are from Redwood Day School
and remember to thank them. You may end up finding a new favorite place to shop or eat and they will have
made a new customer. We all win!
4.
Dress “as you were” back in high school - whatever that means to you.
Upon entering the auction, you will receive your bid number.
Use only the bid number assigned to you for bidding on silent and live auction items.
If you are bidding for someone else, please use your OWN name and bid number.
Work out the payment with them later.
Please bring your checkbook and calendar to the auction.
We prefer check or cash to avoid paying credit card fees.
The Silent Auction opens at 5:30 PM. The minimum bid and minimum raise for each item is written on the bid sheet by the item. To be
valid, bids must comply with these minimums and be legible.
To place a bid, print your name and bid number. Doing so constitutes a legal contract to purchase that silent auction item at the price
you stated, if your bid is the winning bid. The highest valid bid entered prior to the section closing will be the winning bid.
A “Buy it Now” bid is stated on some bid sheets. By printing your name and bid number in this box, the bidding closes. The item is
yours.
The Auction Co-Chairs reserve the right to withdraw any item at any time without notice before the actual sale. In the event of a dispute,
the Auction Co-Chairs shall act as final authority in determining the winning bid.
Live Auction bidding will begin when dinner ends. When bidding, please hold up your bid number toward the auctioneer. The Live
Auction will continue until all items are sold.
If a group is bidding on one item together, please designate one person to place your combined bid. Auction items will be awarded to
one purchaser only. A bid acknowledged by the auctioneer is a legal contract to purchase the item.
Payment. All items should be paid for by the end of the evening. For your convenience we gladly accept Cash, Check, MasterCard and
Visa. We would prefer check or cash so that we don’t have to pay credit card fees. If for some reason, payment can’t be made on the
night of the auction, we will send you an invoice.
Pick-Up. Once you have paid for your winning items, you will be issued a receipt. Please present this receipt at the Check Out Table to
claim your winning tangible items and/or certificates for services.
It is the responsibility of the purchaser to locate and remove his/her winning item(s) by the end of the auction.
Terms of Sale. Unless otherwise noted, all certificates for goods and services must be used within one year of the auction date. All
items and services are subject to the terms and conditions specified by the donors.
All sales are final. There will be no exchanges or refunds. The Redwood Day School Parents’ and Guardians’ Assocication {RDSPGA}
does not make any expressed or implied warranties or guarantees on auction items regarding quality or value of items or services.
RDSPGA has attempted to describe and catalog all items correctly, but all items are offered and sold “AS IS” and “WITH ALL FAULTS.”
RDSPGA neither warrants nor represents, and in no event shall be responsible for the correctness of descriptions, genuineness,
authorship, provenance or condition of the items. No statement made in this catalog or made orally at the auction or elsewhere shall be
deemed such a warranty for tax purposes or market value. Items have not been appraised unless otherwise noted.
Reservations for trips and vacation accommodations must be mutually arranged with the donor unless otherwise noted. No refunds will
be allowed on travel packages for canceled tickets and/or accommodations.
By the buyer’s purchase, the buyer waives any claim for liability against RDSPGA, its elected and appointed officials, members and
employees, sponsors, volunteers connected with the auction, and/or the donor of the item. Neither the RDSPGA nor the donor is
responsible for any personal injuries or damage that may result from the use of the property or services.
Tax Information. This catalog lists the fair market value of each item. Any amount you pay in excess of the fair market value would
normally be available to you as a charitable contribution for tax purposes. Please check with your tax advisor for specifics.
906 Kids in Space ....................................................................................................... Price: $400
This year, a small group of RDS students have the opportunity to develop and launch a payload
into space consisting of a video camera and a GPS unit which will be attached to a small weather
balloon. With the camera running, this simple spacecraft will carry it’s payload to an altitude
of 100,000 feet or more. At this altitude the curvature of the earth is prominent, and the view
above shows nothing but the sun, stars and the blackness of space. The reduced atmospheric
pressure will eventually cause the ballon to burst, the payload will fall back to earth, a parachute
will cushion it’s landing, and the GPS unit will guide the team to the recovery point.
series of projects exploring topics such as; impact mitigation, changes in air pressure, heat
exchange, 3D global positioning, vehicle construction, launch and recovery. Whether they succeed
or fail, this will be a unique learning experience that the kids will never forget. Each student will
receive a short DVD chronicling their efforts and the flight itself. This is the type of experience
