About The Seminar<br />
The mission of the seminar is to explore emerging opportunities through the understanding of<br />
advanced IP concepts. Patent regimes in emerging markets are in the process of harmonizing with<br />
the established regions of the world. This provides new and exciting opportunities for Indian<br />
technology-led companies, which have robust products for these markets but hesitate to enter for<br />
fear of poor standards of enforcement.<br />
Secondly, the aim of the seminar is also to understand the ambitions of the Indian IT industry,<br />
moving from services to product-led businesses in the new and exciting markets of Africa and<br />
Eastern Europe, apart from the established markets in the United States and Europe.<br />
Finally, the seminar aims to unlock the full potential of patent documents by providing necessary<br />
skills of patent analysis to the research wing of companies who most often study patents for<br />
information rather than as legal documents.<br />

Profile of Stephen Adams<br />
Stephen Adams completed a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry at the University of<br />
Bristol, UK, followed by an M.Sc. in Information Science from The City<br />
University, London, UK.<br />
For a number of years, he worked as a technical information searcher in the<br />
field of food science at the UK Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries & Food.<br />
Following a period as editor of "International Packaging Abstracts" at Pira International, he moved to<br />
ICI Agrochemicals (later Zeneca Agrochemicals) to become their principal patent searcher in 1988.<br />
He founded Magister Limited in 1997. He is also on the editorial board of World Patent Information,<br />
The International Journal for Industrial <strong>Property</strong> Documentation, Information, Classification and<br />
Statistics.<br />
Profile of Srinivasan Parthiban<br />
Srinivasan Parthiban earned his PhD from the Indian Institute of Science,<br />
specializing in Computational Chemistry. He holds dual Masters Degree-one in<br />
Science and the other in Engineering.<br />
He has authored several international and national research publications and<br />
a Chapter in a book. He worked for NASA Ames Research Center (USA),<br />
Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel) and AstraZeneca (India). Later, Parthi moved into Contract<br />
Research Organizations in India, where he headed Knowledge Engineering Business Units.<br />
Parthiban Srinivasan is the founder of <strong>Parthys</strong> <strong>Reverse</strong> <strong>Informatics</strong>, a leading information research<br />
company located at IIT Madras’ Research Park.<br />

Profile of Swapna Sundar<br />
Swapna Sundar is the CEO of IP Dome - IP Strategy Advisors, a Chennai based<br />
boutique firm specializing in IP Strategy. Swapna founded the firm in<br />
partnership with R. Raghavendra Ravi after 8 years of experience as an IP<br />
Attorney. Post Graduate Diploma in Patent Laws from the NALSAR University of<br />
Law, and an M.L. in International Economic Law from the Brussels School of<br />
International Studies, Belgium, Swapna is a regular faculty and has given<br />
lectures in various institutions such as the CII, CA Institute, Vellore Institute of Technology, NALSAR<br />
University of Law, Janson's Business School and the Great Lakes Institute of Management. She<br />
practiced civil law in Madras High Court and was also the guest faculty for Industrial <strong>Property</strong> Law at<br />
the Dr. Ambedkar Law University School of Excellence on its M.L. Programme.<br />
Swapna Sundar as CEO of IP Dome has conducted several IP training workshops including 4-city IP<br />
Monetization Seminar in 2010 and has conducted seminars for corporate and MSME clients. Other<br />
seminars conducted by her include IP and Branding with CII IP team, Translational research and IP at<br />
the TN Health Summit, Seminar for Entrepreneurs from west Africa sponsored by UNIDO, and<br />
