We transform knowledge into know-how and
learners into leaders
Munich, the capital city of Bavaria with approximately 1.260.000 inhabitants, has established
itself as one of the cultural capitals of the world. With its nearly 850-year-old tradition, Munich
is a city of theatre and music, film and literature, museums, bars, clubs and festivals. The
local conditions could not be better.
The Fachhochschule München was founded in 1971. Today it is the largest university of
applied sciences in Bavaria and the second largest in Germany. Excellent contacts to local
businesses in the high-tech region of Munich guarantee students the chance to apply the
knowledge they have gained in industry and develop their creative potential.
Every course includes one or two terms of work experience in industry, giving students experience
of the real working world. Practical applications are also taught in over 170 laboratories
belonging to the University of Applied Sciences.

Teaching and learning are our main concern. We train
leaders for tomorrow’s job market.
Research_ In close cooperation with both global players and small businesses, Munich
University of Applied Sciences carries out applied research and development in more than
170 well-equipped laboratories. One of its successful research projects is the development
of an artificial bladder by Professor Helmut Wassermann of the department of electrical and
information technology. Wassermann and his partner Professor Dieter Jocham from the
University of Lübeck were awarded the Innovation Prize for the Promotion of Medical
Technology in 2002 of 200.000 euros for this project. The Fraunhofer Society had this artificial
bladder diversion system patented and thereby guaranteed that the research team has the
scientific lead in this field.
In 2005 the Fachhochschule München has been the most successful Bavarian University of
Applied Sciences with many research projects supported by the German Ministry of Reasearch
and Technology. Furthermore 12 “Competence Center” were established to support practical
science and development as well as technological transfer. In these centers the university
cooperates with industrial companies on research projects.
Courses of Degree_ The 14 faculties at Munich University of Applied Sciences offer a total
of 15 diploma courses, 11 bachelor’s and 17 master’s degree programmes (correct for summer
term 2006).
Master’s degrees:
Building Services, Business Administration an Engineering, Community Development, Housing
and Local Economy, Computer Sciences, Computer Science in Commerce, Electrical
Engineering, Facility Management, Intercultural Communication and Cooperation, International
Business Administration and Management, Micro-and Nanotechnology, Paper Technology,
Production and Information Technology, Social Work in Psychiatry, Systems Engineering.
Additional master’s degree programmes are being planned. This makes the Fachhochschule
Mü nchen the leading university of applied sciences for master’s degrees in Bavaria. The
master’s degree is based on the successful completion of a bachelor’s degree or diploma
course and requires three to four additional semesters of study. One of the most outstanding
courses is the German-French master’s degree in production and information technology,
which is studied in Munich and Paris alternately and leads to a double diploma.

available at Munich University of Applied
Sciences. The most important are listed below.
The university’s three libraries contain over
220.000 books, several hundred different
The services offered by the Centre for Applied
Communication Technology (ZaK) can be
