Research_ In close cooperation with both global players and small businesses, Munich
University of Applied Sciences carries out applied research and development in more than
170 well-equipped laboratories. One of its successful research projects is the development
of an artificial bladder by Professor Helmut Wassermann of the department of electrical and
information technology. Wassermann and his partner Professor Dieter Jocham from the
University of Lübeck were awarded the Innovation Prize for the Promotion of Medical
Technology in 2002 of 200.000 euros for this project. The Fraunhofer Society had this artificial
bladder diversion system patented and thereby guaranteed that the research team has the
scientific lead in this field.
In 2005 the Fachhochschule München has been the most successful Bavarian University of
Applied Sciences with many research projects supported by the German Ministry of Reasearch
and Technology. Furthermore 12 “Competence Center” were established to support practical
science and development as well as technological transfer. In these centers the university
cooperates with industrial companies on research projects.
Courses of Degree_ The 14 faculties at Munich University of Applied Sciences offer a total
of 15 diploma courses, 11 bachelor’s and 17 master’s degree programmes (correct for summer
Additional master’s degree programmes are being planned. This makes the Fachhochschule
Mü nchen the leading university of applied sciences for master’s degrees in Bavaria. The
master’s degree is based on the successful completion of a bachelor’s degree or diploma
course and requires three to four additional semesters of study. One of the most outstanding
courses is the German-French master’s degree in production and information technology,
which is studied in Munich and Paris alternately and leads to a double diploma.
