ARGUMENT FOR DOOMSDAY<br />
Aristotle observed that the arts and sciences had not<br />
reached the end of their progress.<br />
Aristotle reasoned nothing can be created or destroyed<br />
(since only nothing can come from nothing), therefore<br />
the universe must always have existed.<br />
But if the universe has always existed, the arts and<br />
sciences would have reached total perfection by now.<br />
Therefore the world must suffer periodic cataclysms that<br />
throw men back into the stone age, so they have to<br />
rediscover everything all over again.<br />
