Coal & Allied celebrates partnerships
In early November Coal & Allied
joined with some of its community
partners, council members, local
businesses, school Principals and
media to celebrate the programmes
that took place this year to benefit the
local community.
Attendees had the opportunity
to enjoy the beautiful gardens and
chapel at the picturesque Sacred
Spaces, Convent of Mercy venue
in Singleton. With St Catherine’s
Catholic College students entertaining
attendees, delicious catering prepared
by Singleton High School students and
Singleton Apex organising a beverage
service, the evening was a great
opportunity to reflect on a busy and
successful year of partnerships.
Rio Tinto Energy Vice President
External Relations Fiona Nicholls said:
“I’d like to thank all our community
partners for their hard work in
running their programmes, which
is helping build a strong future for
our region. This year to date, more
than 170 local projects have been
supported through our long term
community investment programme.
We’re proud to continue partnering
with a wide range of groups who share
our values and goals to help build
sustainable and robust communities
in the Hunter Valley.
“Our employees have also been playing an active role in
their local communities, embracing events and fundraising
activities and committing almost 1600 hours to a diverse
range of charities and community groups since July last year.”
New community
response officers
Three community response officers
are now working at Mount Thorley
Warkworth to provide community
members with a line of communication
to the operations team, particularly
during the night and on weekends.
In addition to providing a timely
response to community concerns
during non-work hours, their role
includes on and off site inspections,
capturing and communicating
operational changes in response to
weather conditions and community
feedback and calls to our Community
Complaints Hotline. They will also suggest
continuous improvement ideas to further
improve environmental performance.
