Previous summer fayres organised by the North Bransholme
Community Centre and URBaN have been a great success.
We hope that this year’s is going to be even better.
There will be lots of things to do. There will be rides and a
bouncy castle for the kids and we hope you will all enjoy the
stalls and tombolas and take part in a free prize draw to win
a cooker and fridge freezer. Riverside has supported us with
a free tombola and prize draw and will be there with an
information stand. You can find out much more about what
transfer will mean and meet the Riverside team.

Transfer update from
Hull City Council
Refurbishment of
empty properties
Tenants will not have to wait six
months for some of the works to
begin. Riverside has agreed to
work in partnership with the
council to start refurbishing some
of the empty council properties
that are in the worst state of
repair, during this pre-transfer
phase.

Next steps

After March’s ballot, the council announced the result
showing that the majority of voting tenants were in favour of
transferring the ownership and management of the council
housing stock in North Bransholme to Riverside Group.
The council and Riverside have now entered into pre-transfer
discussions, where decisions will be taken about the terms of
contracts and the policies and procedures that Riverside will
follow after transfer. These discussions will result in a legally
binding Transfer Agreement ensuring that the way Riverside
Group delivers services and much needed improvements,
reflects the undertakings given in the council’s Offer
Document. It could take approximately six months for this
process to be completed.
During this pre-transfer period, the council’s Cabinet will
make a final decision about the transfer and they will ask full
council if they can apply to the Secretary of State for consent
to transfer.
If the council’s final decision is to transfer and the Secretary
of State agrees that the transfer can go ahead, Riverside will
become the new landlord for the North Bransholme council
homes towards the end of November, this year. Until then,
Hull City Council will remain the landlord.
The council will continue to work closely with local residents,
Riverside Group, the new North Bransholme Shadow Board
and URBaN during the next six months.
Installation of gas supplies
Works to bring a mains gas supply to homes not currently connected will begin in
August, to ensure all homes can be fitted with a gas central heating system in
2011.

Meet the Riverside North Bransholme team

Shadow Board update
Four more members of the Shadow Board have been
appointed. Councillors Anita Harrison and Nadene
Burton have both been nominated by the council as its
representatives to sit on the Board. In addition, Steve
Ward, Managing Director (North East) and Dave
Wiseman will be Riverside’s nominees.
They will join Janet McCoid, Ray Drayton, Ron Kemp,
Chris Newland, Maureen Dixon and Joan Richards who
were appointed last month as the residents who will
sit on the Board. Two independent Board members
are currently being recruited.
The first meeting of the Shadow Board is planned for
17 th June 2010.

own local business plan, agree
local policies and oversee the
regeneration plans for the
estate. There will be a local
budget set by Riverside.

URBaN’s Notice Board
The next URBaN public meeting will be held at
the North Bransholme Community Centre on
Wednesday 30 th June at 7.00 pm. Everyone is
welcome and please come along to let us
know your views about the estate.
Clean up after your dog!
Free dog waste bags are now available from
the URBaN office – see office opening hours
on the front page.
Three irresponsible North Bransholme dog
owners have been fined £75 each for not
clearing up their dogs’ waste.
Free legal advice
If you have a problem where legal advice
might be helpful, then you can get free legal
advice at the URBaN office. Solicitors, Max
Gold Partnership, hold a free legal advice
surgery at the URBaN office at Appin Close
twice a month. Contact URBaN on 01482
879675 and we will arrange an appointment
for you.
Mobile Library
Did you know that there is a free mobile
library service bringing books to North
Bransholme? The library visits every two
weeks in two different locations. Appin
Close, 2 pm to 4 pm on Wednesday
afternoons: 30 June, 14 and 28 July, 11 and
25 August, 8 September 2010. Kesteven
Way, bus turning circle, Saturday mornings:
26 June, 10 and 24 July, 7 and 21 August, 4
September 2010.
