Colshaw Farm Multi-Use
Games Area and BMX Track

The Project:
Due to the closure of the local school on the
Colshaw Farm estate and its playground
being developed into extra car parking
spaces there was a local need for a
replacement community facility which could
provide sports provision for all active age
ranges. The playing fields at Colshaw Farm
were upgraded with a fenced multi sports
facility for football and basketball, with a
macadam surface which can be used in all
weathers. The existing skateboard park was
transformed into an impressive and popular
bmx track. .
Consultation:
The local community were engaged
throughout the project through a wide range
of approaches. These included events at
local primary schools and the local high
school, consultation ‘sports day’ event on
site, talking to local youth workers, and
other public consultation events.
Benefits:
The site provides a facility for not only the
Colshaw Farm Estate but the wider
neighbourhood It has directly benefitted
the 8000 residents of Handforth including
the residents of the Colshaw Farm Estate.
Almost a quarter of these residents are
under 19 years of age.
The improved playing fields are now a safe
location for physical activity and meet the
need for a community sports facility for the
neighbourhood.
