• As a professional social scientist, concerned with development projects focusing on poverty reduction
and strategic planning in the areas of agriculture, livestock, natural resources and conflict, above all in
Africa but later worldwide since the 1990s.
• Worked with a variety of international agencies and NGOs including the World Bank, EC, FAO, IFAD,
UNDP, ILCA, NORAD, Sida, DFID, OXFAM and private sector consultancies.
• Extensive experience in design, preparation and evaluation of rural development programmes
• Extensive experience of editing and preparing summaries and training materials as well as making
presentations.
• Eight years as a Research Fellow of the Rural Policy and Environment Group at the Overseas
Development Institute, leaving in November 2002 to form my own consultancy company, Mallam
Dendo.
• Conducted research and published the results over many years as well as writing policy papers on this
issue for ODI (where I worked 1995-2002).
• Trustee and chief research officer for the Kay Williamson Educational Foundation, which exists to
promote development among minority peoples of West Africa
• The consultant has worked with governance, policy and development issues for many years both as
an independent consultant and through work with the Overseas Development Institute, London. He is
familiar with conditions for aid effectiveness, cooperation policies, sector wide approaches and the
millennium development goals.

I worked across Central America in 2002 as part an evaluation of the effectiveness of extension
programmes developed by the Overseas Development Institute and more recently in Peru for a private
consultancy looking at the potential for ecotourism in the Amazon Basin. I am familiar with Belize but not
within a formal consultancy.
