• As a professional social scientist, concerned with development projects focusing on poverty reduction<br />
and strategic planning in the areas of agriculture, livestock, natural resources and conflict, above all in<br />
Africa but later worldwide since the 1990s.<br />
• Worked with a variety of international agencies and NGOs including the World Bank, <strong>EC</strong>, FAO, IFAD,<br />
UNDP, ILCA, NORAD, Sida, DFID, OXFAM and private sector consultancies.<br />
• Extensive experience in design, preparation and evaluation of rural development programmes<br />
• Extensive experience of editing and preparing summaries and training materials as well as making<br />
presentations.<br />
• Eight years as a Research Fellow of the Rural Policy and Environment Group at the Overseas<br />
Development Institute, leaving in November 2002 to form my own consultancy company, Mallam<br />
Dendo.<br />
• Conducted research and published the results over many years as well as writing policy papers on this<br />
issue for ODI (where I worked 1995-2002).<br />
• Trustee and chief research officer for the Kay Williamson Educational Foundation, which exists to<br />
promote development among minority peoples of West Africa<br />
• The consultant has worked with governance, policy and development issues for many years both as<br />
an independent consultant and through work with the Overseas Development Institute, London. He is<br />
familiar with conditions for aid effectiveness, cooperation policies, sector wide approaches and the<br />
millennium development goals.<br />

I worked across Central America in 2002 as part an evaluation of the effectiveness of extension<br />
programmes developed by the Overseas Development Institute and more recently in Peru for a private<br />
consultancy looking at the potential for ecotourism in the Amazon Basin. I am familiar with Belize but not<br />
within a formal consultancy.<br />
