energy sectors. Today, Rolls-Royce employs more than 7,700 people in advanced manufacturing jobs across the United
States. Rolls-Royce has invested more than $1 billion in the U.S. over the past decade and we continue to invest for future
growth across the region.
The company has a worldwide network of University Technology Centers and research partnerships which focus on critical
technology challenges. University partnerships established in the US include: Purdue University, Georgia Institute of
Technology, University of Illinois, Iowa State, and the Commonwealth Center for Aerospace Propulsion Systems (CCAPS)
with the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech.
Rolls-Royce North America – Investing in our Future
Rolls-Royce is one of the most famous brands in the world, and has established strong positions in four global markets —
civil aerospace, defense aerospace, marine and energy. With corporate headquarters in Reston, Virginia, Rolls-Royce
operations in North America are critical to our company’s success. Some of our familiar American-made products include:
Civil Aerospace
Boeing 787 Dreamliner – At our new Crosspointe, Virginia, advanced manufacturing plant, Rolls-Royce
produces key engine components for its Trent 1000 engine that powers the Boeing 787, the world’s most
modern and fuel efficient airliner.
Cessna Citation Ten – Rolls-Royce manufactures all the AE family of engines at our Indianapolis facility,
including the engines used to power the top-of-the-line Cessna Citation Ten.
Gulfstream G650 – Rolls-Royce sources engine components from across the United States for one of the
world’s largest and fastest business jets.
Defense Aerospace
C-130, V-22, Global Hawk, Army Kiowa Warrior Helicopter, Joint Strike Fighter LiftSystem – At our
Indianapolis facility, Rolls-Royce manufactures engines for some of the most important military aircraft in the
world, including the C-130 military transport aircraft; the V-22 Osprey tilt rotor aircraft; the Global Hawk
unmanned aerial vehicle; the Army Kiowa Warrior Helicopter and the Joint Strike Fighter. The Rolls-Royce
LiftSystem is designed for use on F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, and Rolls-Royce is the only company in the world
to possess this unique technology and capability.
Research & Development (R&D) - Rolls-Royce spent $1.4 billion* (£908 million) on R&D in 2011. At our
Indianapolis-based LibertyWorks® facility, Rolls-Royce is conducting leading-edge research on the next
generation of variable cycle engines.

Marine
Propellers – Rolls-Royce manufactures propellers for all U.S. Naval surface combatant ships and Virginia class
fast-attack submarines at our Pascagoula, Mississippi, and Walpole, Massachusetts, facilities.
Main Propulsion Systems – Rolls-Royce delivers engine components from across the United States for the
U.S. Navy’s new 600-foot-long DDG 1000 destroyer and provides the MT30 Marine Gas Turbine for the U.S.
Navy’s Littoral Combat Ship.
Energy
Compressor Systems – Rolls-Royce manufactures oil and gas pipeline compressors at our Mount Vernon,
Ohio, plant.
Fuel Cells – Rolls-Royce is conducting research and development on next-generation fuel cell technology at
our Canton, Ohio, facility.
Power Generation – Rolls-Royce produces sophisticated power systems for industry and the military at our
Indianapolis plant, and assembles industrial gas turbines at our Mount Vernon facility.
Civil Nuclear – Rolls-Royce produces plant process computers for nuclear power plants at our Huntsville,
Alabama, and Chattanooga, Tennessee, facilities. The computers are in use at 70 of the 104 U.S. nuclear
power plants, as well as plants around the world.
Investing in America
Rolls-Royce believes that American workers can innovate and thrive in the international marketplace, and the company is
investing heavily in the United States. To help fulfill more than $96 billion in orders, 1 our recent capital investments include:
Virginia
At Rolls-Royce’s sprawling, new Crosspointe facility near Richmond, workers build precision-engineered fan
discs and other engine parts for some of the most advanced aircraft in the world, including the Boeing 787.
Rolls-Royce already has created 150 new high-tech jobs in Virginia, with more jobs expected in coming years.
The company made an initial $170 million capital investment, and we will make additional investments at
Crosspointe in the near future. Crosspointe’s advanced manufacturing and research campus is thriving based
upon partnerships critical to the future of American jobs and the economy. These Rolls-Royce partners include
local governments, Virginia’s leading colleges and universities and major corporations.
Mississippi
Rolls-Royce is building a new $50 million jet engine test center in Mississippi. Located at our Outdoor Jet
Engine Test Facility at NASA’s John C. Stennis Space Center in Hancock County, this second test stand is
expected to create 35 new jobs. Already, more than 150 American workers are employed at three Rolls-Royce
facilities in Mississippi.
Indiana
In Indianapolis, the company has invested more than $22 million in a new state-of-the-art office complex in
downtown Indianapolis. The sleek offices will house 2,500 engineers and professional staff; another 2,000
employees work in our other Indiana facilities.
Also in Indianapolis, in March 2012, the company announced a $42 million new advanced manufacturing
facility to build engine components for the company’s Trent XWB, Trent 1000, AE Series and T56 engines.
