This building has been described as ‘a true monument to the modern use of
hardwood’ which is heartening in an era when the environmental confrontation
of a decade, left many architects nervous about the specification of hardwoods.
If character and a degree of privacy are required, then Mr Gehry, as usual,
turns heads and makes his mark with Maggie’s Centre. If light, space and
complete transparency are essential, then the South Bank project in London
has it ‘to a tee’. In the EU Vet Office, Mr Ciaran O’Connor had to create a
building in harmony with the rural landscape. In all cases, it is the wood that

ONE of the largest coating manufacturers for wooden windows and doors, Remmers
was founded in 1949, in Loningen, Germany.
The company manufactures and supplies approximately 80 types of products for
timber-based industries. The Far East Office was incorporated in Singapore in 1992.
One of the products from Remmers, AIDOL Hydro Window Scumble, is a water
dilutable, fast drying, translucent stain for the surface treatment of wooden building
elements made of hard or soft wood, such as exterior doors and windows. The product
can be used as intermediate and finishing coats.
AIDOL Hydro Window Scumble imparts high gloss and improved UV resistance
and ensures good surface quality. Furthermore, there will be no swelling (water stains)
after drying.
