Wednesday, 8th March 2006 Issue 31 - 2005/06 Page 5 Luncheon Talk By DG Ken Khoo the urgent need in development of Rotary is not more clubs nor larger clubs…it’s the evolution of of a truer & stronger philosophy. He then quoted Confucius from the Analects that gave steps to develop oneself successfully, which is Sincerity…essential to achieve peace & success. DG Ken Khoo speaking... He began by reminding the club that its 76 year old and that rotary must have touched thousand of people in our community in this period, and that Paul Harris once said that DG & 1st lady He asked all Rotarians to uphold the principle of promoting ETHICAL PRACTICES and advocates the TRUTH and what is FAIR to ALL CONCERN, ready to offer hands of friendship/fellowship, spread goodwill an share what is beneficial….and while we enjoy our fellowship be mindful of the needs of others, lend a hand to the needy and sow the seeds of love. He ask us not to be kiasu (from a saying in Chinese). President thanking DG He ended by saying R.I. has chosen the shortest month which has just past as World Understanding Month and wished us PEACE FROM THE DESKTOP OF A ROTARIAN GEMS FROM THE WEB The proposal for pre-charging some amount of our weekly lunch costs has created deep controversy and contrarian views over the past months, culminating in verbal vitriolic hurled across the ether via email. Emotions have been high as members debated opposing sides of the proposal with passion. While dissent is healthy, at times arguments and comments became less helpful as anger appeared to be simmering close to the surface of some exchanges of opinions. I suppose it is natural for folks to get emotional and sarcastic when passionate. However it is sad when we allow our personal differences and differences of opinions to clearly divide the Club. As respected leaders of society and Rotarians, we should be open minded in looking at all views. Then in our consideration of the options, we should subscribe to the final vote, whichever way it turned.
