The inspection identified the following areas of notable practice:<br />
Regular audits – Visual Infusion Phlebitis Score, Early<br />
Warning Score, Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool,<br />
Falls, Armb<strong>and</strong>s, h<strong>and</strong> hygiene, peripheral IV lines, catheter<br />
care, commodes<br />
Implementation of high impact interventions<br />
In Ward 1 the ward sister was emailing information to staff<br />
to reduce paper notices<br />
In Ward 1 the PPE pyramid was displayed for staff to<br />
reference<br />
In Ward 5, good domestic services documentation;<br />
enhanced cleaning sheet<br />
In Ward 5 a proactive ward Consultant, with a keen interest<br />
in infection prevention <strong>and</strong> control. Consultant participates<br />
in long line ward audits, microbiology ward rounds,<br />
appraisals, root cause analysis <strong>and</strong> formal infection<br />
prevention <strong>and</strong> control<br />
The RQIA inspection team would like to thank staff at the <strong>South</strong> <strong>West</strong><br />
<strong>Acute</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> for their assistance during the inspection.<br />
