DEDICATION<br />

Founders Recognition<br />

50 th Annual <strong>Meet</strong><br />

In recognition of the founders of this meet, it is<br />

fitting the 50 th annual meet be dedicated in their<br />

names.<br />

In the late 1950's Monte Charles, AD &<br />

football coach at Southfield High School,<br />

realized that the opportunity for track athletes to<br />

participate in large invitational track meets was<br />

limited. He discussed this with ADs and track<br />

coaches in the area and they enthusiastically<br />

endorsed the idea of a county-wide<br />

championship-type meet. In 1960, he provided<br />

the leadership in planning and secured<br />

sponsorship to stage the 1 st Annual <strong>All</strong> <strong>Oakland</strong><br />

<strong>County</strong> <strong>Track</strong> & <strong>Field</strong> <strong>Meet</strong> at the Southfield<br />

High School stadium. <strong>County</strong> track coaches<br />

Kermit Ambrose from Birmingham Seaholm,<br />

Dean Wilson from Pontiac Central, Bud Carl<br />

from Ferndale, and Jack Boughton from Hazel<br />

Park must also be credited for making this meet<br />

a reality.<br />

Wel<strong>com</strong>e to Farmington High School for today's <strong>Oakland</strong> <strong>County</strong><br />

<strong>Track</strong> and <strong>Field</strong> Championships. Farmington High is extremely<br />

proud of its athletic facilities and is honored to have the opportunity<br />

to host the 50 th annual meet.<br />

From past history we know that some of the top track and field<br />

athletes in the state will <strong>com</strong>plete in today's challenge. We would<br />

like to recognize their self-discipline, hard work, pursuit of<br />

excellence, and good sportsmanship. <strong>Track</strong> and <strong>Field</strong> athletes<br />

perform with pride. They try new things. They persist in the face of<br />

doubt and defeat. They practice, they discipline themselves, they<br />

set goals and strive to achieve them, and because of this they are all<br />

champions, whether they <strong>com</strong>e in first, second or even last.<br />

We hope you enjoy today's program of events. We ask that you<br />

honor the hard work of the many coaches and athletes here today<br />

by exhibiting good sportsmanlike conduct yourselves.<br />

Beginning in 1989, the games <strong>com</strong>mittee of the <strong>All</strong> <strong>Oakland</strong> <strong>County</strong><br />

<strong>Track</strong> & <strong>Field</strong> <strong>Meet</strong> established a method to recognize individuals who<br />

have been significant personalities within <strong>Oakland</strong> <strong>County</strong> track & field.<br />

For any given year, individuals to be honored will have an event dedicated<br />

in their name as a constant reminder of their representation of <strong>Oakland</strong><br />
