NOTES TO FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
(CONTINUED)
18. FINANCIAL RISK MANAGEMENT OBJECTIVES AND POLICIES
The Trust’s activities expose it primarily to the financial risks of changes in interest rates. The Trust does not enter into or
trade financial instruments, including derivative financial instruments, for speculative purposes.
19. FINANCIAL INSTRUMENTS
(a) Interest rate risk
The following table sets out the carrying amount, by maturity, of the financial instruments exposed to interest rate risk:
The Trust’s principal financial instruments comprise cash and short-term deposits.
The main purpose of these financial instruments is to meet obligations for the Trust’s operations. The Trust has various
other financial assets and liabilities such as trade payables, which arise directly from its operations. It is, and has been
throughout the period under review, the Trust’s policy that no trading in financial instruments shall be undertaken. The main
risks arising from the Trust’s financial instruments are cash flow interest rate risk and credit risk. Policies for managing
the main risks are summarised below:
Interest rate risk exposures
The Trust’s exposure to the risk of changes in market interest rates relates primarily to the Trust’s cash, which is subject to
floating interest rates.
Credit risk exposure
The Trust trades only with recognised, creditworthy third parties.
It is the Trust’s policy that all customers who wish to trade on credit terms are subject to credit verification procedures.
In addition, receivable balances are monitored on an ongoing basis with the result that the Trust’s exposure to bad debts is
not significant.
There are no significant concentrations of credit risk within the Trust.
With respect to credit risk arising from the other financial assets of the Trust, which comprise cash and cash equivalents,
the Trust’s exposure to credit risk arises from default of the counter party, with a maximum exposure equal to the carrying
amount of these instruments.
Since the Trust trades only with recognised third parties, there is no requirement for collateral.
