SABA Arabic Class For Sisters, Level 1
This class teaches Arabic as a language. It assumes the student has previous knowledge
of the Arabic alphabet. The student should have the ability to phonetically read Arabic.
In this class you will learn some basic vocabulary, simple sentence structures, and basic
dialogue. Students who successfully complete this class will be able to sign up for the
next level Inshallah.
Location : SABA
Time and Dates: Sundays 11am-12:30pm, Class Starts on December 3, 2006 and ends on
February 18, 2007. Total 10 Classes. No Classes on December 24, December 31, and
January 28.
Students: Ladies only, must be at least 18 years old.
Instructor: Lama Mouayad, native Arabic speaker.
Text Book: Gateway to Arabic, Book 2, by Dr. Imran Hamza Alawiye (please see
following page for more details)
The textbook can be purchased from the MCA bookstore (limited number available), or
can be ordered online. You must bring the book on the 1 st day of class.
Registration: Please send email to lama.mouayad@gmail.com by November 26 2006. All
students must register by November 26. Walk ins will not be accepted.
Class Attendance Policy: To insure good progress, class attendance is mandatory.
Students will be automatically dropped after two unexcused absences.
Homework: Weekly homework will be assigned. The students are expected to spend 1-2
hours per weeks for homework.
Class will cover:
• Gender of nouns and agreement of adjectives
• Asking and answering simple questions
• Use of the definite article
• Some prepositions and conjunctions
• Use of singular personal and attached pronouns
• The dual forms of nouns and adjectives
• Sound and broken plural nouns and adjectives
• Singular, dual and plural demonstrative pronouns
• Numbers from 1 to 10 and associated rules
• Simple dialogue
• A broad vocabulary grouped according to subject, including the home, the school,
animals, shapes, colours, fruit and vegetables, transport, clothing, parts of the
body, the family, occupations and nationalities.
