<strong>SABA</strong> <strong>Arabic</strong> <strong>Class</strong> <strong>For</strong> <strong>Sisters</strong>, <strong>Level</strong> 1<br />

This class teaches <strong>Arabic</strong> as a language. It assumes the student has previous knowledge<br />

of the <strong>Arabic</strong> alphabet. The student should have the ability to phonetically read <strong>Arabic</strong>.<br />

In this class you will learn some basic vocabulary, simple sentence structures, and basic<br />

dialogue. Students who successfully complete this class will be able to sign up for the<br />

next level Inshallah.<br />

Location : <strong>SABA</strong><br />

Time and Dates: Sundays 11am-12:30pm, <strong>Class</strong> Starts on December 3, 2006 and ends on<br />

February 18, 2007. Total 10 <strong>Class</strong>es. No <strong>Class</strong>es on December 24, December 31, and<br />

January 28.<br />

Students: Ladies only, must be at least 18 years old.<br />

Instructor: Lama Mouayad, native <strong>Arabic</strong> speaker.<br />

Text Book: Gateway to <strong>Arabic</strong>, Book 2, by Dr. Imran Hamza Alawiye (please see<br />

following page for more details)<br />

The textbook can be purchased from the MCA bookstore (limited number available), or<br />

can be ordered online. You must bring the book on the 1 st day of class.<br />

Registration: Please send email to lama.mouayad@gmail.com by November 26 2006. All<br />

students must register by November 26. Walk ins will not be accepted.<br />

<strong>Class</strong> Attendance Policy: To insure good progress, class attendance is mandatory.<br />

Students will be automatically dropped after two unexcused absences.<br />

Homework: Weekly homework will be assigned. The students are expected to spend 1-2<br />

hours per weeks for homework.<br />

<strong>Class</strong> will cover:<br />

• Gender of nouns and agreement of adjectives<br />

• Asking and answering simple questions<br />

• Use of the definite article<br />

• Some prepositions and conjunctions<br />

• Use of singular personal and attached pronouns<br />

• The dual forms of nouns and adjectives<br />

• Sound and broken plural nouns and adjectives<br />

• Singular, dual and plural demonstrative pronouns<br />

• Numbers from 1 to 10 and associated rules<br />

• Simple dialogue<br />

• A broad vocabulary grouped according to subject, including the home, the school,<br />

animals, shapes, colours, fruit and vegetables, transport, clothing, parts of the<br />

body, the family, occupations and nationalities.
