Prior to retirement,Steve Thomas was<br />

Manager, Global Transmission & Driveline,<br />

Research & Advanced Engineering, Ford Motor<br />

Company. Mr. Thomas was responsible for<br />

all Ford Motor Company future technology<br />

development in the areas of automatic, manual<br />

and hybrid transmissions and also for driveline.<br />

AVL POWERTRAIN ENGINEERING<br />

Dr. Hamid Vahabzadeh is the Deputy Vice<br />

President, Global Transmission Operations at<br />

AVL Powertrain Engineering. He is responsible<br />

for the AVL transmission technology<br />

development.<br />

Prior to joining AVL in February 2013, Dr.<br />

Vahabzadeh spent 30 years with General<br />

Motors. He began his career at the General<br />

Motors Research Center working on CVT and<br />

hydrostatic transmissions. Later, he took<br />

over responsibility for the entire research<br />

activities on transmissions at General Motors.<br />

In 2000, Dr. Vahabzadeh assumed worldwide<br />

responsibility for the Advanced Engineering<br />

of all transmissions and for the transmission<br />

technology strategy at General Motors<br />

Powertrain.<br />

Dr. Vahabzadeh received his Ph.D. from the<br />

University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1982. He<br />

has published numerous technical reports and<br />

patents. He is also a member of the technical<br />

committee of the <strong>SAE</strong> and CTI transmission<br />

symposiums.<br />

JOACHIM WOLSCHENDORF<br />

VICE PRESIDENT VEHICLE & DRIVELINE<br />

ENGINEERING, CHIEF TECHNICAL OFFICER<br />

FEV INC.<br />

Jochem Wolschendorf is currently Vice<br />

President Vehicle & Driveline Engineering,<br />

Chief Technical Officer, FEV, Inc. He is<br />

responsible for all vehicle and drivetrain<br />

activities for FEV in the US, including hybrid<br />

and electric vehicle developments. Mr.<br />

Wolschendorf initiated and executed the<br />

development of FEV’s Hybrid and Electric<br />

Vehicle Development Center in Auburn Hills,<br />

MI. This state-of-the-art development center<br />

includes electric motor test rigs, battery<br />

testing facilities, electric vehicle charge<br />

stations, as well as hybrid powertrain test cells.<br />
