3.4.4 Poets<br />
Local Poets gave a serious moment to the<br />
proceedings as they performed their environmental<br />
poems to the spectators. Having completed the poem<br />
it was given to the honourable guests so that they<br />
may consider its contents more carefully.<br />

3.4.5 Comedian<br />
A local comedian entertained the crowd with<br />
his rapper/clown dance act, complete with<br />
cigarette party tricks. This performance was<br />
very entertaining <strong>and</strong> popular with the<br />
spectators. Once again although there was no<br />
direct environmental message this act added<br />
to the celebratory feel <strong>of</strong> the event.<br />

3.5 Speeches<br />
Mr. Mhina, (REMP Project Manager) gave a short speech describing the activities <strong>of</strong> REMP in<br />
Rufiji District <strong>and</strong> talked about the importance <strong>of</strong> WED <strong>and</strong> careful environmental management.<br />
A representative <strong>of</strong> Mangrove Management Project gave a speech describing the activities <strong>of</strong><br />
MMP.<br />
Finally, the guest <strong>of</strong> honour, Mohoro Divisional Secretary delivered a speech on behalf <strong>of</strong> the<br />
District Commissioner who was unable to attend. The speech spoke about WED <strong>and</strong> its central<br />
theme <strong>of</strong> water <strong>and</strong> water catchments. He extended his sincere thanks to all the donors for their<br />
support to environmental management in Rufiji <strong>and</strong> congratulated the CEAS prizewinners.<br />
