Scottie, do us a favor.
Beam us up to the land of late-night
enterprises (a.k.a. Meatpacking). For in
our mission to explore strange new
worlds and civilizations in retail, we
boldly go … wherever we can shop.
Which brings us to Space107, a furniture revamp operation
spearheaded by Captain Amir Dinkha (we added that captain part),
an Iraqi refugee who found his American dream in the form of
midcentury modern furniture.
His showroom offers standout pieces like a chocolate suede sofa, a
chrome floor lamp, and a round mohair chaise. But venture to his
sublevel graveyard and note the dilapidated Eames, Edward
Wormley, and Karl Springer just waiting to be resuscitated. In his
“laboratory,” Dinkha works like a mad scientist restoring each model
to its original glory.
Prices range from a few Benjamins to upward of $20,000 (because
everyone deserves luxury). And his creations can be seen in Italian
Vogue and the Olsen twins’ house (a.k.a. the final frontier).
See? Stars will trek to Space107.
Even the next generation.
Space107, 107 Horatio Street, between Washington Street and the
West Side Highway (212-206-7599 or space107.com).
