Sport can mean different
things to different people.
It is a way to stay active, it
is a venue for competition,
it teaches life skills and it
provides leadership roles.
Throughout Saskatchewan,
sport is enhancing peoples’
lives and building communities.
Sport strengthens communities
by bringing people together,
fostering skill development
and inclusion, keeping us
healthy and happy, and
generating economic and
tourism development. From
longevity, disease prevention
and increased brain function
to weight loss, bone strength
and increased energy level, the
benefits of exercise have been
scientifically demonstrated
again and again. Sport brings
people together and helps
define our communities,
but it also keeps community
members healthy and strong
late into life. As such, sport
improves lives every day, and
helps decrease health care
costs.
There are sport programs in
every area of the province
for people of all ages and
abilities. More than 310,000
Saskatchewan residents are
registered participants in sport
activities, and supporting
the system are more than
38,000 registered coaches and
officials. Added to these figures
are thousands of volunteers
who give their time and skills
so that others may benefit.
Sport is truly a province-wide
activity.
The amateur sport network
in Saskatchewan is led by
Sask Sport Inc., a volunteergoverned
federation consisting
of districts for sport, culture
and recreation; provincial
sport governing bodies; and
multi-sport and multi-service
provincial organizations.
Sask Sport manages
Saskatchewan Lotteries on
behalf of more than 12,000
sport, culture and recreation
organizations in the province.
are distributed to eligible
organizations through the
with saskatchewan
lotteries, everyone wins
Saskatchewan Lotteries
continues as a major fundraiser
for sport culture and recreation
in the province. This year ticket
sales saw record increases,
with sales totalling $205 million.
This represents a 21.4 per cent
increase over the previous year.
The increase can be attributed
to LOTTO MAX and the
newly introduced POOLS and
PROPS Sport Select games.
LOTTO MAX earned $71.8
million in total sales during the
first full year it was available.
Saskatchewan was also home
to 16 major winners of prizes
more than $1 million, with
one winner of $25 million on
LOTTO MAX.
Saskatchewan’s 815 lottery
retailers deserve considerable
credit as sales figures increase,
and as consumer prize claim
processes and procedures are
strengthened. Retailers ensure
consumer protection policies
are in place and research
indicates that 78 per cent of
Saskatchewan residents support
the current lottery system.
