them?
Housing Frequently Asked Questions
- Yes. Freshmen are required to live on-campus.
Research shows that students who live on-campus are
more likely to stay in college and graduate. They
report more satisfaction with their undergraduate
experience, particularly with friendship, faculty
relations and college life. They also achieve more in
extracurricular activities, particularly in leadership
and athletics.
- Yes. By completing and submitting the housing
application, the student is agreeing to live on-campus
for two consecutive semesters. It is a legally binding
contract. You should encourage your student to read
all Stipulations Relating to Cancellations and Refunds
on-line at www.housing.sc.edu/crefund.asp before
submitting the application/contract. Keep in mind that
by submitting an online application the student is
submitting their electronic signature and accepting the
contract.
- It is not guaranteed that a student will receive his/her
first choice for housing, but every attempt is made to
honor their request. Assignments for incoming
students are made based on the date of their
University application. It is always in a student’s best
interest to include as many preferences as possible
when submitting their application.
- Students living on-campus have a one-year (twosemester)
contract with University Housing. It is the
student’s responsibility to make any decision
pertaining to the cancellation of housing as soon as
possible and to notify University Housing. Keep in
mind all freshmen are required to live on-campus.
Stipulations Related to Cancellations and Refunds are
published in multiple ways including, but not limited
to, the housing application, housing assignment
notices, room selection, e-mail and by checking the
Housing website at www.housing.sc.edu. Our office
must be notified by the student of their cancellation
and because our contract is with the student, they are
the only person eligible to cancel their assignment. No
exceptions may be made.
- The Housing Assignment Office has a contract with
the student and therefore must receive any and all
paperwork for them, including billing appeals and
exemption applications.
