of the rarest habitat
types in Maine and
make up only 0.4%
of Maine’s entire
wetland acreage.
The Scarborough
Marsh is the largest
contiguous marsh
system in the state of
Maine and is 15% of
the state’s total tidal
marsh area.
Scarborough Marsh
has the highest
diversity of bird
species found in
any of Maine’s 53
salt marshes.
