Woodcarving and Sculpting Courses 

1 week - full day or half day course Option A 

We offer instruction in all aspects of woodcarving and sculpting, for all 

abilities, from beginners to advanced students. You will be encouraged 

to either copy a carving from the 500 pieces at the School or you can 

practice your own ideas according to your individual interest and skill. 

You may choose to work from a block or a rough-out and your tutor will 

help you to achieve a good result.

Theory: 

During your course our special theory teacher will give instruction in the 

various important aspects of woodcarving and sculpting which 

includes preparing wood, sharpening tools, modelling, drawing, the 

anatomy of the human body, form and proportions and finishing your 

work. Theory and practical are taught in parallel. All this tuition is included 

in the regular course fee and can be done on a need to know basis.

We offer 32 weeks of bilingual courses for you to choose from each year with some special additions listed in the brochure. These courses are 

in small groups of about 8 students, which makes it possible for participants to receive individual tuition.

Special weeks for English speaking 

participants 

If you think you may have language difficulties – Don't worry. Our 

classes are always bilingual. Most weeks English speaking students 

attend classes. 

On the dates listed below we have specialist English speaking tutors. 

We encourage you to attend these weeks as the more people we 

can get to come at one time the cheaper the transfer costs will be. 

Traditionally many carvers from all over the world return to attend our 

courses during these weeks, which gives this time a lovely 

international flavour. During these weeks there will also be the 

opportunity to finish your carving with wax, stain or watercolours at 

the end of your course.

Antique painting and gilding 

1 Week - full day course Option B 

Learn how to gild and paint figures and carvings the classic way. The 

gilding involves 26 operations and you will be taken through these, 

step by step. This is a learning process. You will usually finish one 

piece of normal size by the end of the week… Our intention is that 

you will be trained and given sufficient information to be able to 

continue working on your own at home.

Wood Turning 

1 Week - full day course Option C 

For many weeks in 2012 we will offer wood turning courses. There are 

different themes to choose from. Some are: spindle turning, turning 

in wet wood, hollow turning and many more. Learn new techniques, 

try new tools and develop your skills. 

Why not try something new or combine a carving and a turning 

course? Please ask for details.

Austrian Woodcarving Weeks 2012

Choose to take part 1,2 or 3 weeks, with the possibility to join a tour to 

South Tyrol. Learn how to carve and sculpt the Austrian way, and take the 

opportunity to have a gilding/painting class during the third week. 

Carvers Programme 

Sunday Arrival – meet your new carving friends at school. 

There will be tutored carving from Monday to Saturday lunch each 

week. This should give you ample opportunity to finish your carvings. Also 

use the possibility to join the special theory classes which are held 

parallel to the practical class. 

Weekly schedule for the full day course: 

Sun 18.00 meet your tutor for the week. 

Mon to Fri 08.30 –12.00 and 13.30 to 18.00

Since this might be a longer course than 

usual, here are some ideas of how you can

There may be a possibility that you could join in the day tours of the non 

carving participants depending on space – please let us know if you are 

interested. 

Students who attend a half day

Don't miss the fantastic tour to 

South Tyrol on the 6th and 7th of 

October, with visits to many 

carving venues!!

For the non-carving people accompanying, we as always, offer a 

programme with some nice tours and other fun stuff in the surrounding 

area. Of course this is also an option for half day course participants. 

Each week we will make 3 excurions to interesting places nearby the 

school. They will all take place in the afternoon. 

Several small handicraft venues are waiting for us to explore them. A visit 

to a cheesery, a glass etching workshop, a trip up the mountain, a herb 

walk and the making of a herb pillow or cooking something special from 

Austria with Hilde are all possible programme points. 

Don't forget you can also sign up to the Wednesday tour – details see 

below. 

For the free days, there will of 

course also be enough time to 

relax or to do other things like 

hiking, Nordic Walking (poles are 

provided), rent a bike for the lovely 

roads along the river Lech etc.. 

Please also note the opportunity to 

book treatments in the Spa of the 

comfortable Hotel Alpenrose next to the school – so don't forget your 

swimming costume.

Weekly Excursions: 

Every week on Wednesday we will 

give you the opportunity to take 

part in a bigger full day trip, for an 

extra fee. The woodcarvers, of

large number of woodcarvers.

Tour to Southern Tyrol – Italy 

6th - 7th October 

Carve and relax during winter time, 

Christmas and New Year 

2011/2012 and 2012/2013 

We leave on Saturday morning 

heading south, crossing the 

Brenner Pass into Italy. After World 

War I Tyrol was divided with one 

part given to Italy and the other 

part retained by Austria. So 

actually South Tyrol is more 

Tyrolean than Italian when you 

look at the culture and the way of 

life. On the other hand it has for 

almost hundred years been 

influenced by Italy, this makes it a 

very interesting area. Here you will 

find extremely impressive scenery, 

the Dolomites are just fantastic, 

but also a lot of culture and flair 

from Southern Europe. This 

together with very good food and 

wine makes it an outstanding trip 

especially in the fall when the 

colours of the trees are changing. 

Our main stop will be in Gröden – 

Val Gardena, simply the carving 

center of South Tyrol and perhaps 

the world cradle of carving. Here 

we will be able to visit many 

carving shops and the famous 

“Unika Gallery” as well as the The 

Gherdeina Museum with many 

interesting woodcarvings from the 

past. 

We will stay in the Val Gardena 

area and also visit some 

interesting places in the surrounding, like the town Sterzing or the Abbey 

Neustift. 

If we get a large enough group, we will try to organize a visit to the Stubai 

carving tools factory on our way – if this works we might have to move 

the trip one day forwards or backwards.

Included: 1 overnight with breakfast and dinner, travelling by bus with a

New Year – or just prefer to spend it together with other carvers? Why not 

come to Elbigenalp, join a course and spend a peaceful and relaxing 

holiday in a friendly atmosphere where of course non-carvers are very 

welcome. During those winter weeks 

we have a longer lunch break and 

work later in the evening, so you can 

enjoy the beautiful scenery at the 

sunniest time of the day for walks, horse 

drawn sleigh rides or go skiing in the 

beautiful winter Alpine countryside.

Special offer for retired folk in winter 

Forget those winter blues! Why not come and join us during the winter 

time and spend some time carving, relaxing and walking in the 

beautiful Lech Valley. You can book one week carving with a tutor and 

another one or two weeks where you can carve on your own. Every day 

one of our teachers will visit the 

group and give you advice on 

any problems you might have. Of 

course you don't have to carve all 

the time, so you can get out into 

the bracing alpine air for walks.

Programme: 

This programme is set up for the carver who is seriously interested in 

becoming a professional woodcarver. Anyone seeking to make their 

living by carving, with the opportunity to take the Austrian woodcarvers 

examination, should join this education programme. 

All courses are the same price, except that some of the special 

sculpting, painting and woodturning courses have a small

Guesthouse Geisler-Moroder 

Our guesthouse is directly connected to the school. All bedrooms are 

roomy, light and well equipped with ensuite facilities and cable TV. We 

provide free Wireless Lan for our guests who bring their computers. There 

is also a coin operated internet station for our guests. In the cosy 

restaurant we serve good local and international food. Our staff in the 

guesthouse and restaurant will do their best to make your stay as 

comfortable and cosy as possible. 

Half pension consists of a plentiful breakfast buffet and dinner. 

Lunch is included in the course and can also be booked by noncarvers.The 

school and the guesthouse are situated a short walking 

distance from the centre of the village, with easy access to shops and 

restaurants. 

Please Remember – 

Spouses are very welcome! 

You can bring your spouse or partner to the school even though they 

are not taking part in the courses, as all are welcome. There are many 

opportunities like hiking, cycling, swimming or just enjoying the beautiful 

scenery. 

We have an arrangement with the Hotel Alpenrose, whereby, for 10,- 

Euros a day you can use the swimming area, sauna and fitness studio. 

For those who like more organized activities, you can participate in the 

daily activity programme of the Alpenrose Hotel for 60,- Euros a week. 

This includes all the above facilities and activities like water gymnastics, 

Thai Chi, Qui Gong, hiking tours etc. For more information please 

inquire. So don't stay away because you think there will be “nothing for 

me to do”.

matters pertaining to hotel accomodations, sightseeing tours, and transportation, whether by air, railroad, motorcoach, 

motor car, steamship, boat or by any other means, and as such, hold themselves, free of responsibility for any

for any damage, expense or inconvenience caused by late air, rail or boat arrivals or departures or by any 

change of schedule or other conditions; nor will they responsible for the loss, or damage to, baggage or any article

The carriers concerned are not to be held responsible for any act omission, or event during the time passengers 

are not on board their plane or conveyance. The passage contract in use by the carriers concerned, when issued,

Cancellation insurance - extent of coverage - Elbigenalp package only: 

Reimbursement of cancellation costs if you do not commence your 

journey, up to the amount of coverage selected. 

Refund: 

You will get back all payments except the charge for the insurance 

and a handling fee of € 35,--. 

Reasons for cancellation: 

Illness of, accident to or death of the Insured or his family members, 

damage to property, loss of job, filing of divorce petition by spouse etc. The 

amounts of coverage and the premiums are based on the Agreement 

price per booking, regardless of the number of persons. In case of 

cancellation - notification should be given as soon as possible and a proof 

of illness supplied. 

In the event of cancellation, the event insured against applies to the 

insured person affected, his insured family members and a maximum of 

three other accompanying insured persons, if a joint booking has been 

made. The names of the insured persons must be stated at the time the 

policy is taken out. 

We recommend you to transact all your payments (by cheques or 

creditcards i.e.) in Euro’s as these are definitive prices. For all payments the 

exchange rates of the day will be used! We reserve the right to cancel 

specific group tour departures 60 days in advance, if the required 

minimum of persons for such departure has not been reached. In such 

case all tour deposits and tour payments will be refunded in full!
