The Hon Amanda Rishworth MP<br />

Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities<br />

and Carers, Parliamentary Secretary for<br />

Environment and Urban Water, Federal<br />

Member for Kingston<br />

Amanda graduated with a Bachelor<br />

of Psychology with Honours from<br />

Flinders University and a Masters Degree in Psychology<br />

from Adelaide University. Amanda works with all levels of<br />

government to champion important local issues including, for<br />

example, successfully lobbying for a youth-specific headspace<br />

mental health facility at Noarlunga to improve the access of<br />

local young people to mental health care and related drug<br />

and alcohol services. In addition to her work in the local<br />

community, Amanda was humbled to have been appointed<br />

Parliamentary Secretary for Disability and Carers as well as<br />

Parliamentary Secretary for Environment and Urban Water.<br />

As a local MP, Amanda has heard from many people with<br />

disabilities, their families and their carers in our local<br />

community and has hosted forums to allow our community to<br />

have its say on important reforms like Disability Care <strong>Australia</strong>.<br />

in the Senate<br />

Senator Mitch Fifield was sworn in as<br />

Senator for Victoria in the <strong>Australia</strong>n<br />

Parliament on 1 April 2004, was re-elected at the 2007<br />

election and heads the Victorian Coalition Senate ticket for<br />

the 2013 election.<br />

Before entering Parliament, Mitch worked for seven years as<br />

senior political adviser to the former Federal Treasurer, Peter<br />

Costello, and held senior advisory positions in the Victorian<br />

Kennett and New South Wales Greiner governments. Mitch<br />

has served as a reservist in the <strong>Australia</strong>n Army Psychology<br />

Corps and studied politics at Sydney University.<br />

Jon has been presenting the Morning<br />

1997. Known for his provocative and<br />

Ken is the Chief Executive of National<br />

Disability Services (NDS), the peak<br />

association for non-government disability<br />

service organisations. In that role he<br />

provides information, representation and policy advice.<br />

Ken has worked in social policy and public affairs for more<br />

than 25 years.<br />

Based in Canberra, he is currently a member of the National<br />

People with Disabilities and Carer Council, the Not-for-Profit<br />

Sector Reform Council, the NDIS Disability Workforce, the<br />

National Disability Strategy, Implementation Reference Group<br />

and several committees advising on disability employment.<br />

Liz Cairns<br />

Victorian Launch Manager<br />

DisabilityCare <strong>Australia</strong><br />

With a background in social work<br />

and management, Liz has worked in<br />

disability, health and rehabilitation for<br />

24 years. She has provided direct<br />

service to clients and families, managed and led teams,<br />

and established and improved services. She has worked in<br />

publicly-funded health and disability support services, and<br />

in catastrophic injury management. Her disability experience<br />

is extensive and includes physical, intellectual, sensory and<br />

cognitive disability.<br />

Prior to moving to <strong>Australia</strong> in 2012, Liz worked for NZ’s<br />

Accident Compensation Corporation. In 2007, she led the<br />

establishment of the National Serious Injury Service (NSIS),<br />

which was ACC’s first specialist support response for people<br />

who had sustained spinal cord injury or significant brain<br />

injury through injury. Before moving to Geelong to take up her<br />

current role, Liz worked with PwC Sydney in the Health and<br />

Disability Advisory team.<br />

Rod has an extensive background in<br />

leadership, management, workforce<br />

development and in vocational education<br />

and training. He has held senior management and training<br />

positions including the positions of CEO with Orana Education<br />

& Training Cooperative Ltd, National Learning & Development<br />

Manager with NRMA and an Officer in the Army.<br />

Rod has a strong community services background as well and<br />

is currently on the Board of the Lane Cove and North Shore<br />

Community Services, Rural Financial Counselling Service NSW<br />

- Central West, and was on the board of United Protestant<br />

Association NSW (Aged Care) for 8 years.

Rhonda’s vast breadth of senior<br />

management and Board experience has<br />

established her as a much respected figure<br />

within the disability, health, public and philanthropy sectors.<br />

Rhonda has led the initiation and development of cutting edge<br />

organisations such as the <strong>Australia</strong>n National Preventative<br />

Health Agency, the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation, the<br />

<strong>Australia</strong>n International Health Institute, and the <strong>Australia</strong>n<br />

Commission for the Future.<br />

Rhonda is the Federal Government’s Chair of the National<br />

People with Disabilities and Carers Council and has recently<br />

been appointed as Board Member and Principal Member of<br />

the NDIS Independent Advisory Council.<br />

jenny ferber<br />

Manager Workforce Development<br />

Community Services and Health,<br />

Industry Skills Council<br />

Jenny currently manages the brokerage<br />

of the National Workforce Development<br />

Fund (NWDF) and development of the<br />

Workforce Innovation Network (WIN) in Aged Care.<br />

Jenny has a strong background in developing people and<br />

organisations, and understands the role of the national<br />

vocational education and training system in building skills and<br />

improving performance.<br />

Previously Jenny was Head of Learning and Development for<br />

the ABC; Director Access Educational Services for TAFE NSW,<br />

and has worked in international development on strategies to<br />

increase employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres<br />

Strait Islander people.<br />

Jennifer Fitzgerald<br />

Chief Executive Officer<br />

Scope<br />

Jennifer Fitzgerald became the Chief<br />

Executive Officer of Scope on the 3rd<br />

January 2012. Jennifer’s value driven<br />

approach has led her to work in the<br />

disability, health, aged care and community<br />

sectors for over 30 years.<br />

Jennifer has a Bachelor of Applied Sciences (Physiotherapy),<br />

Graduate Diploma of Physiotherapy (Neurology), a Masters in<br />

Business Administration and a PhD in Physiotherapy.<br />

Jennifer is a member of the <strong>Australia</strong>n Council of Health<br />

Service Executives, <strong>Australia</strong>n Institute of Management,<br />

<strong>Australia</strong>n Institute of Company Directors and <strong>Australia</strong>n<br />

Physiotherapy Association. Jennifer was recently appointed<br />

to the role of Deputy Chair of the National Disability Services,<br />

Victorian State Committee. She has held Directorships with<br />

Ability First <strong>Australia</strong>, Cerebral Palsy <strong>Australia</strong> and Scope.<br />

John McKenna<br />

Disability Commentator<br />

John describes himself best as a<br />

Disability Commentator and has spent<br />

much of his professional life working<br />

with people who have intellectual<br />

disabilities and their families.<br />

He is the Deputy Chair of the EW Tipping Foundation,<br />

Committee member on the Association for Children with<br />

Disability, and Co-founder of the Chinese Kangaroo (nondisability)<br />

Advocacy organisation supporting Chinese women<br />

living in <strong>Australia</strong>.<br />

Presently, John works across all levels of advocacy, including<br />

systemic, individual, and self, and he specialises in selfdirected<br />

funding option with VALID inc. He is a regular<br />

blogger, and you can read his blogs at<br />

John lives in Melbourne and has a disability known as<br />

Arthrogryposis since birth. An electric wheelchair is his mode<br />

of transport, so naturally he has many views around the<br />

challenges that present themselves to him as a result of this.

Early Bird Registrations<br />

To qualify for early bird registration, registration fees<br />

must be received by COB 5 July 2013. Registration fees<br />

are based on date of payment receipt, not the date of<br />

receipt of registration form.<br />

Cancellations<br />

Cancellations received in writing by the Conference<br />

Office by Friday 19 July will be accepted and all fees<br />

refunded less an administrative fee of AUD $50.<br />

Cancellations received after this date cannot be<br />

accepted and will not be refunded, however, transfer of<br />

your registration to another person is acceptable. The<br />

full name and details of the person that will replace you<br />

must be advised in writing to the Conference Office prior<br />
