As part of the ongoing environmental and engineering assessment of the Hornsea Zone for offshore wind farm development, Smart Wind is
undertaking a series of offshore surveys throughout 2012. This flyer provides an outline and brief description of the current and planned survey
activities over the next six months.
Latest Activities
The MV Southern Star survey vessel will be continuing the bird and marine mammal survey Zone wide, and also at predetermined Subzone 1 and
Subzone 2 transect lines. The vessel will also be undertaking an acoustic survey for marine mammals.
Geotechnical investigations are currently ongoing within subzone 1 and are due to complete in October.
A local commercial fishing vessel will be conducting a potting survey at three sites within the cable route survey area between October and
November: West of Silver Pit, North-east of Sole Pit and within the six nm mile limit off Horseshoe Point
SMart Wind are committed to both working alongside the fishermen and providing high quality baseline monitoring data on the fisheries within the
