Segway PTs Improve Patrolling
Working smarter and faster is something we all strive to achieve.
IPC’s Segway PT Law Enforcement and Security Patrol Training Program
improves the overall efficiency of interior and exterior patrol by increasing
officer visibility, mobility, and allowing more patrolling cycles. Segway PT
Patrol Officers are able to respond to incidents more quickly, and can carry
emergency equipment like Automated External Defibrillators and
First-Aid kits.
Law Enforcement and Security Agencies across the country have
discovered an Officer’s increased accessibility to the public is another key
benefit. The Segway PT Patrol Officer will find that the unit acts as a natural
“ice breaker” and facilitates interaction with the public. The increase in
visibility and accessibility makes Officers more approachable, aiding their
public safety function.
Rolling Along
IPC’s Law Enforcement and Security Patrol Training for Officers utilizing
Segway Personal Transporters provides the knowledge and skills to be
safe and productive during patrol duties. Our training program’s priority is
to ensure Officer and public safety during Segway PT Patrol operations.
Upon completion of the Officer training program, participants will be able
to demonstrate proficiency in the following techniques:
Standing Stationary
Turning Maneuvers
Obstacle Avoidance
Controlled Stops
Speed Control
Interior & Exterior Patrol Methods
• Stepping On & Off • Public Interaction
By completing the Instructor program, participants will be able to:
• Explain all learning objectives from the student course
• Identify all training material and proper techniques for instructing
all program segments
• Demonstrate proper techniques for first time riders
• Instruct and evaluate students on drills and riding techniques
Our Law Enforcement and Security Patrol Training for the Segway
Personal Transporter features extensive riding time, certified instruction,
and ultimately adds another resource to a public safety department.
Training Segments
IPC’s Segway PT Patrol Program has three segments:
1. Classroom instruction – Visual presentation, in person
instruction, and completion of training workbook.
2. Officer drills and practice – Students begin by learning basic
riding techniques in a controlled environment. This is reinforced
with increasingly challenging drills before proceeding into sparsely
populated public areas for pedestrian traffic practice.
3. On the job evaluation– After completion of the first two
segments, an instructor will patrol with the student for a minimum
number of certification hours. Instruction will address site-specific
issues and evaluate the Officer’s knowledge, riding techniques,
and skill level while observing Officers on patrol, prior to receiving
active Segway PT Patrol clearance.

* Course students may be end-users, instructors, or a combination of both. If the total amount of students goes
below 4, student cost will increase proportionately.

Documentation
To meet strict legal and safety criteria, each segment of IPC
International's Segway PT training curriculum is documented. Our
instructor must acknowledge in writing that the officer has obtained
the knowledge and skill level to proceed to the next segment.
Because the Segway PT is a serious law enforcement and security
tool, a heavy emphasis is placed on safety not only for the benefit of
the riders, but also for the general public.
