A MESSAGE FROM THE
Public Services General Manager
As part of the Fiscal Year 2012/13 budget,
the City Council has approved the City
Manager’s reorganizational plan. One of
the changes is to formally merge Human
Services with Recreation Services. Additionally,
the Public Services Workgroup will
be called the Community Services Department.
This transition will occur sometime in
the fall and be fully implemented by the first
of the New Year. It is believed that these
changes will bring more communication
between like services, as well as efficiencies
that will save the City money.
The good news is that Special Interest
Classes are returning this fall! Due to a
number of issues the City had with its
implementation of the program, it was
decided to suspend these classes until a resolution
could be reached. After a three year
hiatus, you will see within this Recreation
Guide offerings that include Zumba, belly
dancing, and flower arranging. Although we
are starting small, staff will be adding classes
on an on-going basis to meet the needs and
interests of our residents.
Now that school is back in session, we have
many programs that can assist working
families with cutbacks made by the Los
Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).
The City believes that the Early Childhood
Education Program and the afterschool
Kid’s Club Program will fill the void left by
LAUSD cuts. Both City staff and I are looking
forward to serving you through programs
such as these throughout the fall and into
the holiday season.
