L’oeil de L’astronome<br />

Synopsis: Summer 1610. One of the first telescope invented<br />

by Galileo finally arrives in Prague, the capital of the German<br />

Empire. For ten nights, Johannes Kepler, astronomer Rudolf<br />

II can finally explore the sky using the new invention and see<br />

that nobody has ever seen. The terrace where Kepler moved his<br />

observatory becomes the place where the imperial court makes<br />

an appointment. Night after night, people come to the show as<br />

looking through the telescope, watch the dissection of a human eye, plotting against the<br />

emperor. At the heart of this agitation, Johannes Kepler, unclassifiable and tireless, traces its<br />

singular path between science and superstition, intolerance and freedom...<br />

Quand l’Europe parlait français<br />

Synopsis: The film tells the story of the French language in<br />

the eighteenth century, the reign of Louis XIV on the eve of the<br />

French Revolution, trying to decipher the springs its hegemony<br />

in Europe at that time. The film project is to question what<br />

makes a legend language: French has he been hegemonic as<br />

could be before him Italian or Spanish, and English after? Or<br />

is it that language embodies the values that exist today and<br />

that would be attached to him by nature? To bring this question,<br />

the film is based on two characters: one, Voltaire embodies<br />

better than anyone his age and its values; another Fumaroli<br />

Marc brings his historian of French essayist and scholar on the<br />

hegemony of French and concrete during the eighteenth century events look: correspondence<br />

and diplomacy, literature and art conversation, decorative arts and life lounges. The one and<br />

the other, but in two opposite perspectives, guide us in the chronology of a abounding century.<br />

The film takes us to meet the European elites who adopted French as their lifestyle. Experts<br />

from the eighteenth century (antique historians, restorers, museum curators) to bring their<br />

own table a key time.<br />
