SMFM/AAOGF SCHOLARSHIP AWARD<br />

Congratulations to Dr. Janet Andrews, of <strong>the</strong><br />

University of Iowa, on receiving <strong>the</strong> 2005<br />

SMFM/AAOGF Scholarship Award. Dr. Andrews’<br />

proposal, reviewed and selected by <strong>the</strong><br />

SMFM/AAOGF Foundation Scholarship<br />

Committee, is entitled "Human Cytomegalovirus<br />

and Regulation of TRAIL in <strong>the</strong> Placenta" We<br />

can look <strong>for</strong>ward to Dr. Andrews’ presentation<br />

summarizing her research at <strong>the</strong> <strong>annual</strong> <strong>meeting</strong><br />

of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Society</strong> in 2009.<br />

<strong>Society</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Maternal</strong>-<strong>Fetal</strong> Medicine<br />

Foundation<br />

The purpose of <strong>the</strong> Foundation is to support<br />

young investigators in maternal-fetal medicine.<br />

The <strong>Society</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Maternal</strong>-<strong>Fetal</strong> Medicine<br />

Foundation seeks to identify potential leaders in<br />

maternal-fetal medicine and support <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

research ef<strong>for</strong>ts through <strong>the</strong> funding of<br />

SMFM/AAOGF Scholarship Award. Each year a<br />

promising young scientist in <strong>the</strong> field of maternalfetal<br />

medicine is selected to receive <strong>the</strong> award.<br />

These jointly funded three-year scholarships are<br />

designed to enhance <strong>the</strong> quality of research work<br />

done by those entering maternal-fetal medicine,<br />

to facilitate <strong>the</strong> retention of fellows who have<br />

elected to pursue a career in academic medicine,<br />

and to improve <strong>the</strong> health care of pregnant<br />

women and <strong>the</strong>ir infants through <strong>the</strong>se research<br />

programs.<br />
