CRIMINAL RECORDS CHECK
As you may be aware, all students who are undertaking an initial teacher training
qualification must be checked to ensure that they have not been debarred from or
have criminal records that make them unsuitable for working with children.
Disclosure for applicants who reside (or have resided) in the UK
Applicants who reside or have resided in the UK are required to obtain an ‘Enhanced
Disclosure’ which is issued by the Criminal Records Bureau. You will be sent further
information about how to apply for this Disclosure if you are accepted onto the
programme and decide to choose St Mary’s as your firm choice.
As part of the application procedure for a CRB Disclosure, we are required to check
various documents to confirm your identity and address. You will need to produce
one document from Group 1 (please refer to below list of Valid Identity
Documents) and two further documents from group 1 or 2, one of which must
verify your current address.
Please ensure that you bring the ORIGINALS AND PHOTOCOPIES of the
required identity documents (at least three, including one from group 1) with
you to the interview.

Group 1 - Primary Trusted Identity Credentials
Current Valid Passport – UK or EEA (or non- EEA in combination with a

Biometric Residence Permit (UK)
Current UK Driving Licence (Full or Provisional) - Both photo card and

UK Birth Certificate – Issued within 12 months of date of birth
Group 2a - Trusted Government/State Issued Documents
Current UK Driving Licence – Photo card or old style paper version
Current Non-UK Photo Driving Licence (If entered the UK less than 12 months
ago.)
UK Certified copy of Birth Certificate issued after 12 months of date of birth.
UK Marriage/Civil Partnership Certificate
UK Adoption Certificate

UK Fire Arms Licence

Group 2b – Financial/Social History Documents
UK Mortgage Statement from the last 12 months
UK Bank/Building Society Statement from the last 3 months (we cannot
accept online statements)
UK Bank Building Society Account Opening Confirmation Letter from last 3
months
UK Credit Card Statement from the last 3 months (we cannot accept online
statements)
UK Financial statement from the last 12 months (e.g. pension, endowment,
ISA)
UK P45/P60 Statement from last 12 months
Council Tax statement from the last 12 months
UK Work Permit/Visa
Utility bill from the last 3 months (we cannot accept mobile bills)
Benefit statement from the last 3 months (e.g. Child Allowance, Pension)
A document from Central/Local Government/ Government Agency/ Local
Authority giving entitlement from the last 3 months (e.g. from the Department
for Work and Pensions, Customs and Revenue, Job Centre)
EU National ID Card
Cards carrying the PASS accreditation logo
If you are successful at interview and accept the offer of a place, we will process
your application with the Criminal Records Bureau. The charge for the check is at
present £44 which you will be asked to pay when you return your CRB application
form. This does not need to be paid at this time.
Check for applicants who have never resided in the UK
If you have never previously lived in the UK, you do not need to apply to the Criminal
Records Bureau for a Disclosure at this stage. Instead, you will be required to obtain
equivalent information from the overseas authorities in the countries where you have
lived and you will be sent further information about this if you are accepted onto the
programme and decide to choose St Mary’s as your firm choice.
