<strong>CRIMINAL</strong> <strong>RECORDS</strong> <strong>CHECK</strong><br />

<strong>As</strong> <strong>you</strong> <strong>may</strong> <strong>be</strong> <strong>aware</strong>, <strong>all</strong> <strong>students</strong> who are undertaking an initial teacher training<br />

qualification must <strong>be</strong> checked to ensure that they have not <strong>be</strong>en debarred from or<br />

have criminal records that make them unsuitable for working with children.<br />

Disclosure for applicants who reside (or have resided) in the UK<br />

Applicants who reside or have resided in the UK are required to obtain an ‘Enhanced<br />

Disclosure’ which is issued by the Criminal Records Bureau. You will <strong>be</strong> sent further<br />

information about how to apply for this Disclosure if <strong>you</strong> are accepted onto the<br />

programme and decide to choose St Mary’s as <strong>you</strong>r firm choice.<br />

<strong>As</strong> part of the application procedure for a CRB Disclosure, we are required to check<br />

various documents to confirm <strong>you</strong>r identity and address. You will need to produce<br />

one document from Group 1 (please refer to <strong>be</strong>low list of Valid Identity<br />

Documents) and two further documents from group 1 or 2, one of which must<br />

verify <strong>you</strong>r current address.<br />

Please ensure that <strong>you</strong> bring the ORIGINALS AND PHOTOCOPIES of the<br />

required identity documents (at least three, including one from group 1) with<br />

<strong>you</strong> to the interview.<br />

for Work and Pensions, Customs and Revenue, Job Centre)<br />

If <strong>you</strong> are successful at interview and accept the offer of a place, we will process<br />

<strong>you</strong>r application with the Criminal Records Bureau. The charge for the check is at<br />

present £44 which <strong>you</strong> will <strong>be</strong> asked to pay when <strong>you</strong> return <strong>you</strong>r CRB application<br />

form. This does not need to <strong>be</strong> paid at this time.<br />

Check for applicants who have never resided in the UK<br />

If <strong>you</strong> have never previously lived in the UK, <strong>you</strong> do not need to apply to the Criminal<br />

Records Bureau for a Disclosure at this stage. Instead, <strong>you</strong> will <strong>be</strong> required to obtain<br />

equivalent information from the overseas authorities in the countries where <strong>you</strong> have<br />

lived and <strong>you</strong> will <strong>be</strong> sent further information about this if <strong>you</strong> are accepted onto the<br />

programme and decide to choose St Mary’s as <strong>you</strong>r firm choice.
