Welcome to the 2011-2012 School Year at Lansdowne!
The PTO Board, committee chairs, and active
members are planning events, volunteer
needs, and coordinating fundraisers. All of
these efforts are very important, as they will
directly enhance and support our childrens’
educational experience at Lansdowne. PTO
fundraising supports classrooms with
technical equipment and supplies, field trips,
playground equipment and maintenance, and
various other areas of need.

- Clip and save all your General Mills “Box Tops for Education.” Simply clip the logos off
General Mills products and send them to school in a plastic Baggie with your child.
- Check with your employer to see if they have a Contribution Matching Program, as many
match their employees donations to non-profit organizations.
Remember to ask your family, friends and neighbors to “clip” and “link” in order to help us
raise as much “free” money for Lansdowne as possible.

Citipass Coupon Book Fundraiser
It’s time for our Citipass fundraiser! This year’s coupon book is full
of great deals, and at only $25, the book pays for itself in no time.
Lansdowne makes approximately $13 for every book that is sold.
Last year’s sale was a tremendous success bringing in over $6,000
for our students and school. Let’s make this year even better!
The Citipass Fundraiser ends Wednesday, September 21 st .

The Silent Auction is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year and WE NEED
YOU, our parents, to help generate the donations. We need your talents, business
connections, products, services or other creative items to make our auction a huge
success! Please consider what services you could donate: restaurant certificates,
sports or special event tickets, autographed items, hand-crafted goods or other items
of value. Donations can be dropped off at the front office! Contact Cay Moore at
caymoore@bellsouth.net to volunteer to solicit for donations or arrange for a donation
pickup. See you at the Silent Auction!
Fun Fest is a Lansdowne IB World School tradition that dates back decades! We
take over the school and have Fun! The festival includes awesome Arts and Crafts,
Carnival Games, a huge selection of Inflatables, The Black Light Dance and much
more! We will have pizza and other concessions for everyone to enjoy. We need
volunteers to make this BIG event a success! Please sign up to volunteer a shift or

Welcome All Lansdowne Lions,
We have spent all summer preparing for this new school year.
Teachers have gone to various training to learn how best to engage students.
Parents and partners have been busy laying the ground work for our gardening
project this year. Our front lobby has even gotten a “facelift” in anticipation of
your arrival.
Even though our time has changed this year, 9:15-4:15, our
commitment to providing quality educational opportunities has not. This time
change will afford us opportunities for exploration of many varied educational
experiences. Experiences that build on the 5 “E’s” of science (engage, explore,
explain, extend and evaluate). These initiatives will require all of us to continue
to work collaboratively, take risks and stay focused on student learning.
Educating a child is a big job, and we need your help to do it
well. Please be sure your child comes to school each day rested and ready to learn.
Attendance and arriving on time are also important – we don’t want our
students to miss any instructional time, so please make sure your child is here
on time every day.
I also encourage you to stay in touch with your child’s teachers
and with me if you have any questions during the school year. Working
together, I know we can make this a great year at Lansdowne Elementary IB
World School and I look forward to partnering with you this year to help your
child learn!
I want to thank each of you for the support, hard work and
commitment you demonstrated throughout the last year. As we move forward
into 2011-2012 our “Paw Pride” will shine even brighter.

You will need to visit the CMS website to register. See http://www.cms.k12.nc.us/volunteersandpartenrs/Pages/default.aspx. Click on the "Register to Volunteer" tab, then follow the
instructions. It is a quick process. You will receive a confirmation/approval e-mail in a day or two. (CMS runs a background check on all volunteers.) This process needs to be
