Foreword
Over the last 14 years Art Toronto has welcomed galleries from nearly 30 countries and across Canada.
I am honoured that during these years Art Toronto has served not only as an important hub for art
appreciation but has become Canada’s largest venue for modern and contemporary art sales.
We have had the privilege of working with many loyal supporters, partners and sponsors whose
contributions and efforts are the pillars of our success. First and foremost I would like to extend
a heartfelt thank you to all of the exhibiting galleries for their support and loyalty. This year’s fair
welcomes over 110 international participants and retains our commitment to showcasing a dynamic
mix of modern and contemporary fine art that includes works by internationally renowned, mid-career,
and emerging artists.
A special applause to our presenting sponsor RBC Wealth Management who returns for the eighth
consecutive year; Official Art Insurer AXA ART; Canadian Art magazine, our official visual art partner
and Artsy who provided an online preview of the fair. Thank you for your invaluable recognition
and integral support of the arts in our communities. We also thank all of our media and community
partners for their significant contribution. We are all the beneficiaries of your vision.
We are very grateful to everyone who has supported Art Toronto this year: the AGO’s Opening Night
Preview co-chairs Cathy Bissett-Parkes and Kelly Driscoll, and their dedicated committee, especially
AGO staff Adrienne Maniezzo and Vanessa Kalisz; to the collectors who open their homes and invite
VIP guests to view their collections; the 2013 Advisory Committee; and to Art Toronto project “ALL
ARTIST ARE HERE” artist and curator Thom Sokoloski. And not least, to the Canadian art community
whose artists, curators, directors, collectors and patrons have supported the fair through counsel
and participation.
Special appreciation goes to The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery who organize the Power Talks
international speaker series. In addition to these engaging talks we continue to focus on programming
that deepens the interest for visual art and encourages the participation of new audiences.
I would also like to join the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art in thanking artist Sarah Anne
Johnson for her contribution to the Art Toronto 2013 MOCCA Benefit Edition. In addition, I thank Kitty
Scott and the AGO Acquisition Committee for allowing Art Toronto to be a part of the growth of the
AGO contemporary art collection, and a very special and personal thanks to Matthew Teitelbaum for
his unwavering support over the last 14 years.
In closing I would like to acknowledge the members of Art Toronto’s hard working team who have
demonstrated the true meaning of teamwork - a sincere and heartfelt thank you for your passion
and commitment throughout the year.
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Art Toronto and to join in the excitement and passion
of the exhibitors, curators and artists participating in this year’s fair.
