<strong>Rashtriya</strong> <strong>Sanskrit</strong> <strong>Vidyapeetha</strong><br />

Established in 1956, it is a premier<br />

institution in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> higher learning<br />

in <strong>Sanskrit</strong> studies. It is funded by <strong>the</strong><br />

Ministry <strong>of</strong> HRD through <strong>the</strong> UGC. It was<br />

declared as a Deemed University by <strong>the</strong><br />

Govt.<strong>of</strong> India in 1987.<br />

Besides imparting education in<br />

Traditional Shastras, it also runs courses in<br />

pedagogy and o<strong>the</strong>r career oriented<br />

Programmes. Modern subjects like<br />

Ma<strong>the</strong>matics, Computer science, History<br />

and Literatures also form components <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> various courses.<br />

The <strong>Vidyapeetha</strong> has achieved a<br />

rare honour <strong>of</strong> being recognised as a Centre<br />

<strong>of</strong> Excellence in Traditional Shastras by <strong>the</strong><br />

UGC basing on its achievements , academic<br />

excellence earned in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> teaching<br />

and research in Traditional Shastras and its<br />

potential for future development.<br />

<strong>Theme</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Seminar</strong><br />

“English and <strong>Sanskrit</strong>: An Interface”<br />

The faculty members in <strong>the</strong> Dept. <strong>of</strong><br />

English are involved in <strong>the</strong> teaching <strong>of</strong><br />

English to students who pursue <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong><br />

various Shastras including <strong>Sanskrit</strong> literature.<br />

This evidently speaks for <strong>the</strong> interdisciplinary<br />

<strong>the</strong>me chosen. It provides for a study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

literatures <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sanskrit</strong> and English.<br />

The following areas may be dwelt<br />

upon for <strong>the</strong> presentation <strong>of</strong> Papers:<br />

1. Creative use <strong>of</strong> Indian myth, philosophy,<br />

etc. in Indian Writing in English and<br />

Western literature<br />

2. Bringing to light any comparable texts or<br />

concepts in English and <strong>Sanskrit</strong> literature.<br />

3. Attempting a comparative study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Aes<strong>the</strong>tics.<br />

The papers presented in <strong>the</strong> seminar<br />

will be taken up for publication. Hence<br />

delegates are requested to send ei<strong>the</strong>r a hard<br />

or s<strong>of</strong>t copy <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> paper.<br />

1. No registration fee is required.<br />

2. Accommodation will be provided.<br />

3. TA will be paid on <strong>the</strong> production<br />

<strong>of</strong> a ticket (II/III AC).<br />
