Welcome to the Wigram House Halls of Residence. The Halls are
situated in a lively and fashionable area with a vibrant nightlife and
is close to the major London attractions of the City and the West
End. It is within walking distance of the main tourist sights,
including the Royal Parks, Buckingham Palace, the Houses of
Parliament and Big Ben and the London Eye.
We wish you a pleasant stay with us and hope that this information
booklet will help you find your way in London and increase your
comfort whilst at the residence.

GUEST INFORMATION
Checking-in
Rooms are available from 14.00hrs on
the afternoon of your arrival. Guests are
asked to check-in at the Reception desk,
situated on the ground floor. At
Reception, guests will be issued with a
room key and a key to the front door.
Guests who arrive early may be able to
leave their baggage with reception. The
University, however, cannot be
responsible for loss or damage.
Checking-out
Guests are asked to vacate their rooms
by 10.00hrs on the morning of departure
and keys must be returned to reception.
Failure to depart by this time or to return
the keys will result in an additional
charge to your final account.
Reception
It is open between 0800 and 2200hrs
and is staffed at night by security
personnel. All enquiries, except in the
case of emergencies, should be directed
to the receptionist on duty during the
day.
Keys
Please ensure that room keys are
returned to Wigram House Reception on
your departure, otherwise a charge of
£30.00 will be made to your final
account. All lost keys will be charged
for.
Luggage
Left luggage facilities are available at all
main line train stations; otherwise ask
reception if they can assist.

Urgent incoming messages can be taken by
the reception on +44 (0) 207 828 5019.
Staff will kindly place your message on a
notice board or room mailbox. We regret
that we are unable to locate guests for
incoming calls.
Visitors
You may invite guests to the hall, but they
must not cause a disturbance to other
residents. We ask that all guests vacate the
building by 2300hrs
Noise
The level of noise should be kept to a
minimum at all times, but especially after
2300hrs. The University reserves the right
to remove any guest found creating noise
or disturbance. No refunds will be made.
Security
All efforts are made to ensure that the
premises are secure. For your own safety,
keep your room locked at all times when
not occupied. The University of
Westminster cannot accept responsibility
for loss or damage to personal belongings
and you should take your own insurance
cover.
Fire
If the fire alarms sound, please leave the
building immediately; do not stop to
collect personal belongings. Leave by
using the nearest fire exit stairwell, do not
use the lifts, then go to your designated
assembly point, under the covered archway
on Victoria Street

assistance.

If you have difficulty evacuating the
building or you need special assistance due
to disability, please let the reception know
when checking-in.

Laundry
There is a coin operated launderette on
the ground floor. Detergent and other
laundry products can be purchased from
local shops. Ironing boards and irons are
also available in the Laundry room.
Kitchens
Cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery
are provided in every kitchen for your
use. Please wash up and return items to
the kitchens when you have finished
using them.
Bathrooms
Bathrooms and toilets are for shared use.
Please leave them as you would like to
find them yourself.
Cleaning
Rooms are serviced every day and bed
linen changed once a week. Please help to
keep the residence tidy and clean after
cooking. Kindly co-operate with the
cleaning staff.
Health & Safety
VOLTAGE: 240Volts, 50Hz AC sockets
are fitted in all rooms. American and 3
pin round plugs cannot be used without
an adapter. A limited number of adapters
are available at reception.
Equipment
The use of large electrical appliances such
as electric heaters, fridges, microwave
ovens etc, other than those provided by
the residence, is not permitted. The use of
candles is also prohibited.
Smoking
Smoking is only permitted in the common
rooms within the hall.

Contract”, a copy of which you should
have in your possession. If misplaced,
spare copies are kept at reception.

LOCAL INFORMATION
Wigram House is well located to visit the major attractions on offer in this diverse and
interesting city. Buckingham Palace, the official home for the Royal Family, is just
round the corner. Why not take a stroll in the beautiful St James’s park, before visiting
Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. The London Eye, with
spectacular views of London, is just minutes from the hall.
TRANSPORTATION
The London Underground
London’s underground is one of the most comprehensive subway systems in the world. It
covers the whole city, is easy to use and is usually the quickest way to travel. Travelcards
are the most economical way of getting around the city. They can also be used on buses
and some trains and will allow you to travel an unlimited number of times within your
chosen zones daily, weekly or monthly.
The closest Underground station to Wigram House is Victoria Station, on the Victoria,
Circle and District Lines. Victoria also has British Mainline train services that serve
destinations outside of London, and is home to the Gatwick Express.
London Buses
Red buses are one of the sites of the capital and can be used to travel over most parts of
London. It is a slower alternative to the tube, but has more regular stops and more
interesting views. From Victoria Street you can either get on the 11, 24 or 211.

The Trains
Train networks provide a fast service out of London, passing through the outskirts of
London and heading towards all other British towns. The Heathrow, Gatwick and Stanstead
express trains take you out of town to London’s major airports. Luton and City airports can
be reached by express coach 757 and by shuttle bus respectively.

Black Cabs/Mini cabs
‘Black Cabs’ can be hailed from the roadside of most streets in Central London when the
‘For Hire’ sign is on. The nearest minicab offices can be contacted on 020 7739 3030.
