Conclusion<br />

Given the aforementioned importance of Scottish tourism to the<br />

economy, and of Scotland’s landscape in attracting visitors to Scotland,<br />

VisitScotland would strongly recommend any potential detrimental<br />

impact of the proposed development on tourism - whether visually,<br />

environmentally and economically - be identified and considered in full.<br />

This includes when taking decisions over turbine height and number.<br />

VisitScotland would also urge consideration of the specific concerns<br />

raised above relating to the impact any perceived proliferation of<br />

developments may have on the local tourism industry, and therefore<br />

the local economy.<br />

23. SCOTTISH RIGHTS OF WAY & ACCESS (SCOTWAYS)<br />

The National Catalogue of Rights of Way shows that right of way<br />

SKC10/SCD110 is affected by the site boundary indicated on the<br />

applicant’s Figure 4.2. A map is enclosed with right of way<br />

SKC10/SCD110 highlighted in orange. As there is no definitive record<br />

of rights of way in Scotland, there may be other routes that meet the<br />

criteria to be rights of way but have not been recorded as they have not<br />

yet come to our notice.<br />

It may be of interest to note that our popular and recently republished<br />

book Scottish Hill Tracks describes a route on a similar line to the<br />

recorded right of way. I have marked an approximation of the<br />

alternative route in pink on the enclosed map.<br />

Additionally, the site boundary appears to lie in part along a route which<br />

follows the west side of Loch Doon. This route is promoted by the<br />

Heritage Paths project for its historic interest and has been highlighted<br />

in green on the enclosed map; it is also described in our Scottish Hill<br />

Tracks book.<br />
