(1998-99) Eisenhower Grant Funded and Completed for Project W.R.I.T.E. II (Writing Really Involves Teacher<br />

Efforts). This was a continuation of the intensive writing workshop in 1998 for an additional 25 teachers (total 50 teachers),<br />

involving coursework, as well as classroom observation and feedback.<br />

(1998-00) Goals 2000 Grant Funded for Project P.R.O.F.E.S.S. (Providing Reading Opportunities for Each<br />

Students’ Success.) This funded a structured tutoring program on the reading comprehension of K-3 at-risk students,<br />

providing $40,000 in hardware and software equipment and materials for Smith Elementary school.<br />

(1998-99) Tower Grant Funded for America Reads Initiative. (This grant funded assessment materials used in the<br />

project described above.)<br />

(1997-98) America Reads Initiative Pilot Study. Thirty-seven children were pre- and posttested to analyze skills in<br />

reading and individually tutored.<br />

(1997-98) Eisenhower Grant Funded and Completed for Project W.R.I.T.E. (Writing Really Involves Teacher<br />

Efforts). This was an intensive writing workshop for 25 teachers, involving coursework, as well as classroom observation and<br />

feedback.


(1996-97). Tower Grant Funded and Completed for “A survey of Tennessee Elementary Teachers’ Knowledge and<br />

Use of Children’s Literature”. (This grant funded a randomized survey of approximately 250 Tennessee elementary teachers,<br />

stratified by grade level, measuring their knowledge and use of children’s literature in their classrooms.)<br />

(1994-95). Tower Grant Funded and Completed for “An Analytical Study Reflecting Historical Trends in<br />

Bibliotherapy: Researching the deGrummond Children’s Collection.” (Data was compiled and presented at IRA Regional<br />

Conference, 1995 and later published as a chapter in a book entitled Preparation, collaboration, and emphasis on the family<br />

in school counseling for the new millennium.<br />

(1994-98). Burt Elementary School Partnership Mini-Grants. (Three grants funded for “Elementary Students”<br />
