For more than 50 years IBS Polisys has been 

one of the world’s leading manufacturers of abrasive 

belt grinding and polishing equipment for 

surface finishing. 

Already in 1952 the first Metabo belt grinding 

machine is being built. Further succesfull developments 

follow until finally in June 2005 the 

company IBS GmbH decides to acquire the Metabo 

Polisys GmbH & Co. KG. 

Since then grinding and polishing machines and 

equipment are being developed, manufactured 

at the traditional Nürtingen location whre innovative 

new machine designs for the advantage

Belt Grinding 

Like so many contemporary technologies abrasive 

belt grinding has its origins in the USA. 

The successful progress of this new development 

in surface finishing began in Germany in 

the 1920’s, initially in the woodworking industry, 

and later after improvements in belt technology, 

also in metal working. 

In the meantime the belt grinding machine was 

firmly established as one the most indispensable 

items of production equipment. 

For de-burring, edge breaking, surface finishing 

or cleaning, belt grinding is consistently demonstrated 

to be the most economical production 

process. 

IBS Polisys machines are designed and built 

specially for continuous production use. Together 

with a wide range of accessories they can be 

configured for almost any grinding or surface finishing 

application. 

For any production process the optimum solution 

lies in the correct specification of both, abrasive 

finishing media and machine. Here IBS 

Polisys offers technical support and process development 

to provide the most cost effective solution 

for any application.

Selecting the correct machine for an application 

Every machine in the IBS Polisys equipment 

range has performance criteria designed for specific 

areas of application. 

Machines are designed basically with platens 

for finishing flat surfaces, or with contact wheels 

and polishing mops for profiled surfaces. Additional 

equipment such as belt backstands, 

contact wheels, belt and mop guards, de-burring 

and chamfering attachments define the applications 

for which the machine can be used. 

Rapid changing of abrasive belts, contact wheels 

and accessories are inherent in the design of 

each machine. The shape and physical size of 

the workpiece are the prime factors that will determine 

the power and configuration of the selected 

machine. 

The key factor to optimum abrasive performance 

is the correct surface cutting speed of the abrasive 

media and the IBS Polisys range of machines 

offer the flexibility to provide the ideal 

speed for each process. 

The following criteria is essential for selecting 

the correct IBS Polisys machine: 

• Supply Voltage: 

Standard voltage for all three phase motors 

is 400V/50 Hz. Motors for other power supplies 

are optionally available. 

• Operating Position: 

Certain models are available for bench 

mounting or operating in the sitting or standing 

position.

The K 100 offers the most flexible option for grinding, 

polishing, de-burring, chamfering, edge

Belt change is instantaneous and does not require

Flat platen belt grinding machine and accessories 

Series BS 100-2 

The BS 100 platen machine shares the 

same robust IBS Polisys design and construction 

but is belt driven and benefits 

from an interchangeable contact idler 

wheel for grinding internal and external 

radii. 







The BS 100-2 has a belt drive design for reduced 

noice and includes the standard rapid belt 

change features and replaceable platen. 

A two speed motor offers abrasive surface 

speeds for most general applications. 

The machine is fitted as standard with a 45 mm 

dia tension contact roller and a longitudinal end 

stop for edge grinding. 

Optional 35 mm and 60 mm rollers are also available.

Series 72780 

The 72780 series are double-ended twin 

motor machines for continuous heavy duty 

applications. The machine is fitted with 

motors on both sides, each motor 3.0 to 7.5 

kW driving it’s own independent side: 



• Optional pedestal heights for sitting or standing

The rugged vibration free construction combined 

with the power available at each spindle 

end, renders this machine ideal for very heavy 

duty production cycles and high stock removal 

rates. Two separate grinding or polishing operations 

can be performed simultaneously and at 

different speeds on each machine side. 

Each independent spindle end is belt driven via 

a stepped pulley easily adjustable for a choice 

of three separately chosen speeds for each side 

of the machine. To satisfy all grinding and 

polishing applications a variable speed option is 

available, either mechanically by gearing, or 

electronically by an AC frequency inverter which 

provides infinitely variable speed adjustment 

from 900-2800 rpm.

Combi Abrasive belts 

For professional metal grinding in industry and handicrafts.
