Raine Square: Up and running again
Well it’s been a year of mixed fortunes
in the CBD. However things are
starting to pick up with some projects
due to come on line next year (new
projects story this issue). Raine
Square is finally back up and running
after ProBuild stepped in to take it
over from Salta. It’s great to see most
of the workers back on the job just in
time for Christmas. Most of the same
subbies are on the site with a few
small changes to the form work and
steel fixers. Good to see you back
boys!
C2 or the BHP HQ as some call it is
powering ahead with FORM 700
getting ready to complete stripping
the jumps. Tower Crane One has
been jacked up to its final height of
249m with ‘legend’ and proud
CFMEU ‘craney’ Frankie Gangemi at
the controls. Frank said his work on
the tower will be a fitting end to a
career that began on the 32-storey
Allendale Square building, the tallest
CBD skyscraper at the time.

At Inner City the main structure is
almost up to height. Diploma’s Zenith
Apartments have reached there final
height with 1178 and Queens River
also well and truly under way. The
John Holland Performing Arts
Complex has finally reached
completion, not bad considering they
started about the same time as the
CBUS job. Ha! Ha! Ha!
BGC: Wet
behind
the ears
when it
comes to
safety!
The same however can’t be said
about BGC’s Perth Arena. By the time
it opens half the acts it would’ve
attracted will probably be dead!
Thank heavens for the boys at Perth
Rigging, otherwise our tax payer
dollars would hurting even more on
this job.
On the subject of BGC, they have
started at the new Police Station in
Northbridge and are off to a ‘good’
start as you can see from this photo.
First day on the job. In the rain, site
was flooded, making it dangerous to
operate a boom lift, because you
can’t see what your wheels are
driving over.
SHAM CONTRACTING:
If you are working under sham
contracting arrangements, you don’t
have to put up with it. Take action and
do something about it now. Get what
you and your family are entitled too!

REMEMBRANCE DAY
I would also like to thank all the
workers who came out in the city
to support Armistice Day with
2 minutes silence on November 11.
WELL DONE – our Diggers would
be proud that you keep their
heroics alive.
Finally, I would like to thank all the
workers and our delegates in the
CBD for all their help and support
this past year. I look forward to
further servicing our members in
2011 and most of all I ask everyone
to drink, drive and work safe over
the festive season. We want to see
