Drawing Zentangles is a technique of
meditation achieved through drawing.
Zentangles are sequenced patterns with no
up or down, right or wrong. This non-verbal
language of patterns and proportions unlocks
creative abilities and insights. Drawing skills
are not necessary - anyone can Zentangle.

In today’s digital world the image of one’s art is more
important then ever. Whether taking pictures for one’s
web site or business card, or presenting your work to a
gallery or museum, making an accurate and clear
impression is essential. Taught by a professional
photographer, this workshop is designed to achieve
exactly that.
Bring a small piece of art (no bigger than 16”by 20” for
two- or three-dimensional work) to
photograph and take home the digital file upon the
completion of the workshop,
Back by popular demand, this workshop in our Printmaking
series allows students to explore the painterly qualities of
monotypes and monoprints. Methods of brushing, rolling,
layering, overprinting, viscosity roll ups, and specific
techniques using Plexiglas or metal plates will be taught.

During this workshop on the revolutionary, versatile and
nontoxic/non-acid method of printmaking, students will
learn how to create a photo-etching plate from ink
drawing on acetate, or a laser print photo on a
transparency. The images are developed with water, producing
extraordinary results.

I and II
The World of Paper Craft
Part I - Quilling
This workshop is open to new and former silk painting students.
Using this traditionally Eastern medium, students will employ
water-based resist and fabric paints to explore the rich color
magic on silk. Participants may bring their own designs,
drawings or fabric swatches for inspiration. The first project will
be a 12” by 15” size, followed by a 27” by 27” hemmed scarf.

Quilling, the first in the Paper Craft series, is an art
form that encompasses the rolling, shaping and
gluing of strips of paper to create decorative designs.
In this introductory workshop, students will learn
some basic shapes and create projects using these
shapes.

During this introductory workshop students will
become familiarized with soldering tools and
supplies, and learn the basic techniques to create
two charms during class. All supplies provided
including art for the charms, however, students may
bring any custom art they wish to use.
Note: Custom art must be laser printed on PLAIN
paper, not matte or glossy photo paper; two images
per charm, sized 1.5” by 1.5”.

Ukrainian
Egg Coloring
In this workshop, part of the Folk Art series, the
students will celebrate the arrival of spring by
learning how to color eggs the “old-fashioned” way.
The traditional art of Ukrainian eggs or Pysanky,
starts with actual eggshells that are decorated in a
technique akin to Batik. By applying alternate layers
of bees- wax and dye, the students will create
European-inspired, intricate, authentic-looking
patterns.

experience levels welcome. The course
concentrates on producing “keeper” paintings
for gallery sale and/or gift giving as well as
ways to enhance the presentation of the final
matted work. (The material fee includes
highest quality paints, paper and mat board.)

Accepting new students at the beginning of each month.
Runs through May 26.
Classes are designed to introduce children to visual arts and
provide art enrichment beyond the school curriculum. A variety of
media and techniques will be explored; special emphasis on
drawing skills. Students learn the concept of drawing from a
model, including pictures and/or simple objects. Throughout the
process young artists are encouraged to develop their initial
drawings into finished compositions. Media explored
include markers, water-brushed markers, colored pencils,
watercolor pencils, oil pastels, watercolor and acrylic paints, as
well as scratch art, collage and printmaking techniques.

Drawing on the Right
Side of the Brain
Using an innovative and experiential approach to drawing, this
method is designed to develop the skills necessary for drawing with
confidence. Whether a novice or practicing artist, this three-part
course of six weeks each is an amazing experience. It will expand
abilities, and enhance creativity.
Part I includes the basics and the concept of negative space.
Part II covers perspective.
Part III will be devoted to portraits.

For the Artist
The Web is a great medium to publicize one’s
work and express artistic talent on the
worldwide stage. This information packed,
six- week course will provide the
fundamentals of designing and publishing a
personal web site, how the Web works, and
the tools needed to produce content.
Personal laptops are recommended, but lab
computers will be available if necessary.

Introduction to
Tole Painting:
The Basic Strokes
Decorative painting is a traditional and centuries
old European folk art. This course, part of our Folk
Arts series, introduces the use of different types of
brushes and basic brush strokes used in
rosemaling and other forms of folk painting. Brush
mastery (through patient practice, reminiscent of
Japanese calligraphy discipline) opens doors for
many future art projects.

Beyond
the Art of
Photography
This course will teach you to use the photographic
process to enhance perception and intuition, going
beyond apertures and shutter speeds, Photoshop
enhancements and paper profile downloads.
Students will learn from what is seen and felt in the
moment. Guided by a professional photographer,
this six- week course will be a journey within as
well as a more fully-realized connection with the
outside world.
Prerequisite: Basic knowledge of the photographic
process (digital or conventional) is essential.

Finally, an adult class for those curious about art, but too
intimidated to try! Guided by a curriculum designed to inspire
confidence and skill building, students will explore a variety of
media. At the end of an interesting and fun-filled six weeks,
participants will possess the confidence necessary to
participate in any other WCAA art class.
From a thought to a full-fledged manuscript, the Writer's
Workshop is a place to meet, write, read, critique, and
encourage new and seasoned writers. Share in the
excitement as writers continue to learn something new from
each other.
The workshop meets on the fourth Saturday of each month.

• ADVACED REGISTRATIO REQUIRED.
• To secure your place in a class, you must fill out this form and
enclose the full tuition payment by check payable to WCAA
or register and pay on line at: www.waynecountyartsalliance.org
The material fee is payable to the instructor at the time of the first class.
• If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment, instructor’s illness, or other emergency, students will be notified prior to the
scheduled start date and a full refund will be issued. Classes cancelled due to inclement weather will be rescheduled.
• Tuition is non-refundable unless WCAA is notified no less than one week prior to start date.
• WCAA will not reduce or prorate any class fees for missed classes or late enrollment.

Call for Artists
Entry Guidelines: Plans are underway for the 2011 Wayne County Arts Alliance Open Studio Tour. The
tour application will be available on WCAA’s website:www.waynecountyartsalliance.org by December 6
or call the office and request an application by mail. Studios must be open Friday, Saturday & Sunday on
July 29, 30 and 31. from 11:00 am to 5 pm all three days.
Application Deadlines and Fees:
The deadline* is January 14, 2011. This is a juried event. There is a $150 entrance fee for artists participating
in the Tour. *This deadline is necessary to meet the brochure production timeline.
Outreach: Please help get the word out to artists in your area. Artists clustered together tend to see an
increase in the number of studio visitors. Participating artists benefit through exposure and sales.
Many tour goers are as interested in the process of how the art is created as they are in the finished
pieces. The Studio Tour is promoted through multimedia marketing, advertising and high quality brochures.
