A city that is good for your
self-esteem
Plastic surgery in Brazil is a world reference
due to the excellence in professional
studies and training and high level installations.
According to the Brazilian Plastic
Surgery Society (SBCP), Brazil is the second
country in the world in these procedures
after the United States.
And São Paulo is the heart of aesthetic and
plastic surgery in Brazil. That is why national
and international celebrities come
to São Paulo only for treatments and aesthetic
surgeries. The last SBCP–Gallup survey
shows that 34,4% of the total plastic
surgeries in Brazil are done in the State of
São Paulo, 60% in the capital. Then we have
Minas Gerais, 14,2% of the totality and the
State of Rio de Janeiro, with 12,3% of the
total, figures that clearly show the power
of São Paulo in this area.
But we must say that São Paulo is the leader
of this area for a long time. The city is
the cradle of the Brazilian Plastic Surgery.
In 1930, the Santa Casa de Misericórdia de
São Paulo (São Paulo Mercy Hospital) was
the first to promote the systemic formation
of plastic surgeons. Here is also the
hometown of the Brazilian Plastic Surgery
Society, which head office is still in the
Pacaembu neighborhood.
In Latin America, São Paulo also shows
its supremacy. In 1941, it was created
here the Latin American Society of Plastic
Surgery, today the Iberian and Latin
American Federation of Plastic Surgery,
which its first congress was held in the
city. São Paulo was also the cradle of the
first subject in Plastic Surgery created in
the São Paulo Medical School in 1933.

According to the SBCP, the aesthetic surgeries
control the procedures, with 59%
of the total, but repairing surgeries also
represent a considerable amount of 41%.
