Automatic Colorimeter measuring ICUMSA and Lovibond Colour
ICUMSA Colour and Lovibond Colour are popular quantitative methods for colour measurement
of sugar solutions and syrups, which have gained widespread international acceptance. The
Lovibond PFX880/S is a high precision spectrophotometer for objective measurement in
accordance with these colour scales. The PFX880/S automatically measures ICUMSA Colour at
420 nm, 560 nm or 720 nm and at a known Brix value and also expresses colour in terms of the
Red,Yellow, Blue and Neutral units that make up the Lovibond Colour scale. Results can also be
displayed in terms of CIE values and spectral data. Samples are measured in a 100 mm cell but
the PFX880/S automatically reports ICUMSA Colour at a path length that satisfies the 20 - 80%
transmittance criteria stated in the ICUMSA method, with 100 mm being the preferred choice.
Colour Analysis made Simple
The PFX880/S colorimeter is an easy to use, automatic instrument. The menu system guides
operators through the selection of operating parameters. Therefore, measurement are initiated by
just a single key press and take less than 25 seconds to complete.
Confidence in Instrument Performance
The PFX880/S is a rugged colorimeter with a fabricated steel housing which is designed to function
equally as a QC instrument within the laboratory or on 24 hour operation in a production
environment. A diagnostic test routine allows users to conduct periodic checks on the instrument
or identify faults. For regular conformance testing the colorimeters are also supplied with a colour
glass filter from the appropriate colour scale.
Optional Items for Individual Applications
Integrated heater unit
Windows software for data
capture on PC
Conformance filter sets
Certified colour reference
standards
A factory fitted option for melting solid samples such as fats and
waxes and preventing them from solidifying in the cell.
Allows data sets to be automatically downloaded to a PC
computer where they can be processed or stored
For quick and simple calibration checks, sets of graded glass filters,
representing a spread of colours from the ICUMSA or Lovibond
Colour scales, are available.
Ideal for routine calibration and verification of test data.
The precision filament lamp is easily accessed
and changed from outside the instrument.
