Welcome Workshop Participants!
I am very excited to be working with you this week and hope you leave this workshop with more
knowledge, resources, and confidence than when you arrived. AP Statistics is a great course, both for
the students and the teachers!
More specifically, here are some of my goals for the week:
• highlight important topics from each of the 4 major contents areas
o Describing Data
o Collecting Data
o Probability
o Statistical Inference
• provide activities that help illustrate these topics
• provide practice with using a graphing calculator and computer software
• discuss the 2010 AP Exam in detail, including strategies for success on the AP Exam
• discuss how to start (and grow) an AP Statistics program at your school, including textbook
• selection, prerequisites, and other issues
• answer as many questions as possible from workshop participants
What you will get (inside the workshop packet):
• a list of resources for teaching AP Statistics
• a brief summary of each major content area
• suggestions for follow-up
• a list of TI-83/84 skills needed in each content area
• activities for use in class
• Note: please do not look ahead in the packet! You will spoil some fun surprises.
You will also receive:
• copies of some of the commonly used AP Statistics textbooks
• copies of commonly used software packages
• a CD full of great resources, including: copies of my old lesson plans, copies of chapter tests,
midterms and finals, including keys, TI programs, Fathom files, worksheets, examples of
projects, a free-response question index, sortable by topic or textbook chapter, and the contents
of this workshop pack (which means it’s OK to write on this one!)
• the Free Response portion of the 2010 AP Exam, including rubrics and sample papers
• a College Board workshop packet that includes a special section on Sampling Distributions, and
portions of the course description, the teacher’s guide, and the multiple choice questions from a
released exam.
