photographic skills such as using multiple<br />

camera formats to set up, shoot, process and<br />

present photographic images; creating images<br />

using digital technology and preparing a<br />

professional portfolio to prepare for a career in<br />

the field of photography. To be a CTE<br />

Completer and fulfill your sequential elective<br />

requirement (2 credits), a student must take two<br />

years of Commercial Photography.<br />

COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY<br />

Students learn to shoot images using a digital<br />

camera, input digital images, produce and<br />

correct digital images, control digital output,<br />

operate air brushes, cameras, meters, and other<br />

photographic digital equipment. Instructional<br />

topics include composition and color<br />

dynamics, contact printing, enlarging and<br />

developing film, and processing microfilm. To<br />

be a CTE Completer and fulfill your sequential<br />

elective requirement (2 credits), a student may<br />

take Commercial Photography II and/or III.<br />

BUILDING TRADES I & II<br />

2 Year Program<br />

Prerequisites: Students must be<br />

16 years of age or older and be able<br />

to read a ruler in increments of sixteenths.<br />

Grades: 10-12 Offered at CATEC<br />

This course will teach you all the basic skills of<br />

the following trade areas: carpentry, residential<br />

wiring, residential plumbing, and masonry. The<br />

safe use of hand and power tools will be<br />

emphasized with more emphasis on power<br />

equipment. Blueprint reading and drawing are<br />

introduced at the beginning of the course. The<br />

latter part of the course will focus on carpentry,<br />

from framing to the finishing trim, and roofing.<br />

Plumbing is introduced as it relates to the other<br />

trades during the year; for example, drain<br />

waste, and vent work are taught as it relates to<br />

bathroom and kitchen plumbing. Residential<br />

wiring emphasizes the basics of wiring a house<br />

and the National Electrical Code. All aspects of<br />

residential construction, from project planning,<br />

purchasing material, to code compliance are<br />

taught. Emphasis will be placed on proper<br />

employability skills and attitude throughout<br />

both years of the course.<br />

Construction Academy Assessments<br />

College Credits: One-year of credit toward the<br />

Carpentry Apprenticeship Program (upon successful<br />

completion of the certification exam)<br />

Verified Credits: 1-2 (certification, completer)<br />

Fees: $60 for tools and safety gear. $29 for Skills USA<br />

(optional).<br />

*2 elective credits if taken in conjunction with a<br />

MASONRY I & II<br />

2 Year Program<br />

Prerequisites: Students with allergies (dust, etc.)<br />

should consult a physician prior to enrollment.<br />

Grades: 10-12 Offered at CATEC<br />

Masonry I: 2-3 Elective Credits*<br />

Masonry II: 2-3 Elective Credits*<br />

Students in Masonry will work with brick,<br />

concrete, glass block, tiles, terra cotta, and<br />

stone. Work can be as simple as laying a wall,<br />

or as complex as building a fireplace. The work<br />

is very physical, involving the use of hand<br />

tools, power tools, and other materials. Brick<br />

and block are laid by hand, requiring the skill<br />

of a craftsman. Students will learn to read<br />

blueprints, understand building codes, and be<br />

knowledgeable of industry safety requirements<br />

and guidelines for handling hazardous<br />

materials.<br />
