1648 BREWERY

Brew-Master (3.9% ABV) 

A new brew to replace Original, with a Chestnut-brown standard bitter 

colour but a non-standard flavour; great taste, depth and flavour. 

Ginger Nol (4.7% ABV) 

Deep amber in colour; an unusual blend of smoked malt barley and root 

ginger creates an amazingly complex but satisfying flavour. 

Signature (4.4% ABV) 

An award winning light-coloured beer; this best bitter with distinctive hop 

notes was launched at this beer festival in 2004. 

Smoky Nol (4.7% ABV) 

A derivation of Ginger Nol; this has a deep, and satisfying smokey flavour. 

Deeply warming for long winter nights. 

ADUR

Black William Stout (5.0% ABV) 

This has a rich black colour with a creamy head. Brewed with Target hops 

and chocolate malt which contributes a dark chocolate aroma and roast 

flavours. 

Merry Andrew (6.2% ABV) 

This is a dark strong ale with a complex aroma and a good balanced, 

rounded flavour. Initial sweetness nicely balanced by dryer middle and end. 

Ropetackle Golden Ale (3.4% ABV) 

This a light refreshing Golden ale with an initial sweetness and delicate 

aroma which leads to a dry finish. 

Velocity (4.4% ABV) 

A traditional English bitter with a fresh flavour, brewed with addition of a 

handful of German Hallertauer hops just before fermentation.

ARUNDEL 

Ford, 


Arundel Castle (3.8% ABV) 

Pale and tawny with fruit and malt noticeable in the aroma. The flavour has a 

good balance of malt, fruit and hops, with a dry bitter finish. 

Old Knucker (4.6% ABV) 

In this very dark old ale, Malt dominates the initial taste but leads on to a 

bittersweet coffee finish. 

Sussex Gold (4.2% ABV) 

A golden-coloured best bitter with a strong floral hop aroma. The ale is clean 

tasting and surprisingly bitter with a tangy citrus flavour and long, dry finish. 

Sussex Mild (3.7% ABV) 

A dark mild with strong chocolate and roast aromas, which lead to a bitter 

taste. Slight aftertaste where the initial flavours remain in the dry clean finish. 

Trident (5.0% ABV) 

A strong pale ale; golden in colour with a slightly vinous aroma.

The 22nd beer in the “Bounder” series; a vinous barley wine - please treat 

with respect. 

Golden Bine (3.8% ABV) 

This is an amber-coloured, clean tasting bitter. A roast malt aroma leads to 

a fruity, slightly sweet taste and dry finish. 

Midhurst Mild (3.5% ABV) 

Traditional dark mild, well-balanced; refreshing with a biscuity flavour. 

Nyewood Gold (5.0% ABV) 

Robust golden brown strong bitter very hoppy and fruity throughout with a 

tasty balanced finish. 

Wild (4.7% ABV) 

This is a brewery blend of Mild and the 6% ABV Wassail - hence the name. 

BEACHY HEAD 

East Dean, 


Beachy Original (4.2% ABV) 

A traditional English bitter brewed with floor malted barley and hops from 

English producers. It has a hoppy flavour with light floral notes. 

Legless Rambler (5.2% ABV) 

This ale uses the brambling cross hops which give it a distinct flavour.The 

name is given in tribute to all those who walk the wonderful South Downs 

Way from Winchester to Beachy Head and celebrate accordingly. 

Low Tide (3.1% ABV) 

A new beer – sorry no tasting notes yet. 

DARK STAR 

Partridge Green, 


American Pale Ale (4.7% ABV) 

An American yeast strain along with strong flavoured Chinook and 

and Centennial hops are used in the recipe for this golden, dry, hoppy 

beer. Voted best golden ale at CAMRA’S 2009 CBOB Awards 

Espresso (4.2% ABV) 

A black beer brewed with roasted barley malt and Challenger hops with 

freshly ground espresso coffee beans also added to the copper for a few 

minutes after the boil to provide a rich and complementary coffee aroma.

Hophead (3.8% ABV) 

A golden-coloured bitter with a fruity/hoppy aroma and a citrus/bitter taste 

and aftertaste. Wonderfully hoppy and clean tasting with a refreshing mouth 

feel. Flavours remain strong to the end. 

Imperial Stout (10.5% ABV) 

A rich Russian Export style stout with a sweet aroma. It has liquorice, coffee, 

roasted malt and chocolate flavours. Complex with full flavour. 

This is our strongest beer; please treat it with utmost respect. 

Six Hop Ale (6.5% ABV) 

Brewed with five different hop varieties in the copper and then dry hopped 

after fermentation; this pale beer is designed for those who like their hops as 

an extreme sport.

A dark porter with burnt caramel, malt and a dry finish with coffee and hops. 

Ginger Tom (4.6% ABV) 

A light-brown beer with some hoppiness and a ginger flavour.

Golden premium ale pleasantly flavoured and lightly hopped.

Bottle Wreck Porter (4.7% ABV) 

A traditional black porter with chocolate, coffee and rich roast malt flavours 

which warm your cockles! 

Hammerpot Pale Ale [HPA] (4.1% ABV) 

This is yellow-coloured pale ale has a citrus and wheat aroma. Fruit is 

present in the taste with a gentle bitter finish. 

Madgwick Gold (5.0% ABV) 

A golden ale with a fresh citrus / spice hop flavour and nose. Very 

drinkable with a refreshing thirst quenching finish. 

Red Hunter (4.3% ABV) 

Deep mahogany to ruby red bitter. A full bodied rich and slightly 

vinous malt character soundly balanced with finest English hops. 

Meteor (3.8% ABV) 

A chestnut coloured session bitter with a combination of malts giving a depth of 

character. Smooth in the mouth yet with a hop character that gives a pleasant 

refreshing and slightly dry finish.

This is brewed to a 1859 recipe, coffee and hop notes are dominant in the 

taste and the long finish. 

Cooper’s (6.0% ABV) 

A new strong ale brewed for this festival; sorry no tasting notes available yet. 

Lewes Castle Brown Ale (4.8% ABV) 

A traditional full malty “Brown Ale” with a creamy head. Mild hop notes with a 

lingering biscuity sweet palate provide coffee and liquorice notes. It has a 

bitter-sweet finish.

Star Of Eastbourne (6.5% ABV) 

A strong old-style India Pale Ale reminiscent of those brewed in the 19 th 

Century. It has a full hop aroma, golden coloured body and the bitterness 

lingers on the palate giving a dry finish.

Dark Horse (3.8% ABV) 

This beer is a delicious mild with crystal & chocolate malt tones. 

Iron Horse (4.8% A.B.V) 

There’s a fruity, toffee aroma to this light brown, full-bodied bitter.Citrus 

flavour balanced by caramel and malt leads to a clean dry finish. 

Prospect (4.5% ABV) 

Brewed from natural organic ingredients including Sussex Barley malt, 

Golding and Admiral hops which provide a well-balanced bitter beer. 

Traditional Sussex Bitter (3.6% ABV) 

A fine clean-tasting amber session beer. A pleasant fruity and hoppy aroma 

that leads to a crisp, tangy taste. A long dry finish. 

KEMPTOWN

China (4.5% ABV) 

Chestnut-brown in colour; this bitter features a slightly floral hop presence with 

amalt base to the taste and hop note at the end of glass. 

KING 

Horsham, 


Horsham Best (3.8% ABV) 

A predominately malty best bitter, brown in colour. The nutty flavours have 

some sweetness with bitterness that grows in the aftertaste. 

King’s Old Ale (4.5% ABV) 

Award winning old ale brewed to have a full and rich but smooth flavour, very 

dark in colour. 

Mighty Mogul (5.1% ABV) 

A premium bitter with a light-amber colour with gentle hop and malt aroma; a 

slightly sweet flavour leads to a strong, long hop finish. 

Mother-in-Law (4.1% ABV) 

A brewery version of the classic blend, King’s Old and Horsham Best; mid to 

dark brown and full flavoured. 

Red River (4.8% ABV) 

A full-flavoured mid brown beer with a red tinge. Very malty with berry 

fruitiness in the aroma and taste. Bitter note finish.

First Kiss (5.1%ABV) 

A very smooth and lightly hopped ale with a citrus tang. Definitely not bitter. 

Best (4.2% ABV) 

A tawny-coloured classic best bitter with well-balanced malt flavours 

and bitterness 

Halfway to Heaven (3.5% ABV) 

Auburn/chestnut colour. It is well-balanced between crisp biscuity maltiness 

and fruit hops with a hint of bitterness in the finish. 

Hip Hop (4.0% ABV) 

A classic blonde beer; clean and crisp. The nose is loaded with floral 

hop, while the pale malt flavour has a pleasing dry and bitter finish.

Langham Special Draught [LSD] (5.2% ABV) 

An auburn beer with rich, complex flavours and a deep red glow. The 

sweet maltiness is balanced with spicy hop aromas and a dry finish. 

Triple X (4.4% ABV) 

A new seasonal beer; sorry no tasting notes yet.

A traditionally mid-brown coloured bitter with hops present in the aroma and 

in the taste. 

Rector’s Light Relief (4.5% ABV) 

Normally a beer for summer; a golden bitter with notable hop presence

Boadicea (4.6% ABV) 

A pale refreshing occasionally brewed ale only using the Boadicea hop 

giving a fresh citrus character to the ale, not the usual bitter! 

Copper Ale (4.1% ABV) 

Copper coloured, quite bitter in flavour with a small amount of 

chocolate to balance. Dry short finish. 

Honey Fuzz (3.8% ABV) 

A seasonal beer produced using locally sourced organic honey. 

Level Best (4.0% ABV) 

Full-bodied tawny session bitter with a malt and fruit aroma, malty 

taste and a dry, hoppy finish. 

Smild (3.8% ABV) 

A traditional dark mild with a full roast body with a hint of chocolate.

Flower of Scotland (4.7% ABV) 

A copper coloured beer; bitter but with a hint of peat in the flavour, like a 

good single malt. A 6 Nations Rugby beer. 

Grand Slam (5.6% ABV) 

A ruby coloured beer; lots of hops, a deep flavour with hints of liquorice. 

A 6 Nations Rugby beer. 

Horsham Old Ale (4.5% ABV) 

Roast and toffee flavours predominate with some bitterness in this traditional 

old ale. Bittersweet with plenty of caramel and roast in a rather short finish. 

Duck House (4.6% ABV) 

A newish beer – sorry no tasting notes yet. 

Triple Crown (4.2% ABV) 

Amber-colour bitter featuring mixed hops in aroma. Taste has more malt with vanilla 

notes.

1066 Country Bitter (4.0% ABV) 

Amber-gold in colour, a light, sweetish beer with good malt and hop balance 

and a bitter refreshing finish. 

Brighton Rocks (4.0% ABV) 

A smooth summer ale using a fully flavoured hop with hints of honey.

Chilly Willy (5.1% ABV) 

Ruby/dark brown in colour with dark treacle and liquorice in the taste and 

spice notes in the aroma with slightly spicy herb finish. 

Mother in Law’s Tongue (4.5% ABV)

Dark (4.0% ABV) 

A dark mild with a deep ruby colour and sweet malty flavour. It has good mouth-feel 

and hop aroma, with a short aftertaste.

Moteuka IPA (5.0% ABV) 

The latest in Acorn’s IPA range; this one is showcasing the New Zealand 

Moteuka hop variety. Expect floral and citrus to the fore. 

Oyster Stout (4.3% ABV) 

A rich, nutty, mouth-filling classic dry stout. Made with three types of malt, 

roasted barley and English Goldings. 

Yankee Pale Ale (5.0% ABV) 

Very pale and very hoppy in an American style. 

Hip Hop Green Bullet (4.3% ABV) 

Very hoppy, giving a high level of bitterness. 

Spanked Monkey I.P.A (6.4% ABV) 

Fruity pine hop aroma, golden coloured with floral hop flavour. Features the 

addition of chilli and ginger to Monkey IPA 

Equinox (4.5% ABV) 

Brewed with the best Highland honeys, this is a golden pale ale with a fruity 

floral spring promise and a hint of honey in the aftertaste. 

Dark Mild (4.0% ABV) 

Dark brown beer with a malt and roast aroma. Smooth mouth feel, with malt, 

roast malt and hops prominent throughout. 

Mothbag (3.6% ABV) 

Mouth-puckeringly bitter and estery gold-coloured beer. Its saltiness is 

predominant in the aftertaste. 

Golden Hare (4.4% ABV) 

This ale is crisp, light and flavoursome; smooth, dry, wonderfully fresh and 

zesty. 

Blue Bullet (4.5% ABV) 

Yellow in colour, this golden ale has a fruity aroma. Hops, fruit and 

bitterness are in the taste and linger in the finish.

BG Sips (4.0% ABV) 

A pale and intensely hoppy beer. Enticing tropical fruit aromas, finished with 

a good level of thirst quenching peppery bitterness. 

Elderado (3.5% ABV) 

A subtle injection of Elder Flowers defines this beer. This beer has plenty of 

character and a lovely bitter finish. 

Nutz (5.0% ABV) 

Aroma and taste dominated by Chestnuts; it is brewed with organic 

chestnuts from the farm of Patrice Dupre in the Ardeche region of France.

Quiver Bitter (4.5% ABV) 

A drinkable golden best bitter, with a strong hoppy aroma, leading through a 

bittersweet taste to a refreshing hoppy finish.

area. Deep red in colour, malty sweet flavour, dry finish. 

Rambler’s Ruin (4.4% ABV) 

Dark amber, full-bodied with rich biscuity malt and fruit flavours; background 

hops and bitterness round off the beer. 

5am Saint (5.0% ABV) 

Intense hoppy aroma, red/amber colour, pine and hops taste; dry end. 

Hardcore IPA (9.0% ABV) 

4 different hop varieties provide extreme bitterness providing a roller-coaster 

of flavour. 

Punk IPA (6.0% ABV) 

This IPA is light gold in colour with tropical fruits and light caramel in the aroma. 

The palate becomes assertive and resinous with the New Zealand hops balanced 

by biscuit malt. Dry, aggressive finish.

The aroma is of malt with Goldings hop character. The taste is dry, hoppy 

and full-bodied with a bitter-sweet finish. 

Sheepshaggers Gold (4.5% ABV) 

A golden-amber brew with faint aromas and tastes of grapefruit and passion 

fruit. Some light bitterness in otherwise sweet aftertaste. 

Old Seadog (5.2% ABV) 

Burnished copper appearance, full-bodied and heavily hopped to give a 

zesty character. Malt flavour with caramel and roast, long aftertaste. 

Black Imp (4.7% ABV) 

Brewed in the basement of the pub; a dark nut-brown beer with a sweet 

roasted malt aroma. The flavour has caramel, roast malt and nutty notes. 

Dry and very roasted finish. 

Bronze (4.5% ABV) 

This ale has rich bronze colour and a full-bodied character with Crystal 

maltiness. A lovely delicate sweetness develops into a long hop finish. 

Astronomy Ruby Ale (4.9% ABV) 

This has a deep amber/ruby colour with fruit, nuts, wood and some toast 

notes in the aroma. Taste is the same with a nice balance and a berry-fruit 

finish. 

Tawny (3.8% ABV) 

Well-balanced tawny coloured bitter with plenty of malt and fruitiness on the 

nose, and malt to the fore in the taste, followed by hop fruit, developing to a 

satisfying bitter finish. 

Gloucestershire’s Glory (4.1% ABV) 

A golden beer with a distinctive citrus hop aroma, mouth-filling malt and fruit 

with a deep dry finish. 

Amarillo (5.0% ABV) 

Brewed with the Amarillo variety hop - glorious smells and lasting spicy 

flavour.

flavours with warming port notes in a subtle finish. 

Pacha (4.3% ABV) 

Slightly fruity aroma, initial smoothness leads to hop notes with a crisp and 

slightly bitter lasting malt finish.

Dark Mild (3.7% ABV) 

Deep red/brown in colour; light bodied with toast and nut undertones.

IPA (5.3% ABV) 

A new strong bitter from the brewery attached to the Prince of Wales public 

house. 

Honey Dipper (4.6% ABV) 

A full-flavoured, golden-coloured ale; combines hoppy flavour with Fairtrade 

honey. It has a perfumed aroma and a long smooth finish. 

Slaughter Porter (4.8% ABV) 

Fuggles hop/treacle toffee aroma, dark roasted malts in the taste. 

Dry mouth-feel akin to a London style Porter.

First Gold hops. Refreshing, rounded, soft and very drinkable.

Ripper (8.5% ABV) 

Brewed as a Belgian Tripel; the aroma is peppery with sweet lemon. Taste 

is spicy and sweet with loads of caramel and toffee which is balanced by a 

grainy background and a sharp, hop finish. 

Four Seasons (4.3% ABV) 

A refreshing, straw-coloured ale with a good floral and citrus aroma. 

Nightmare (5.0% ABV) 

This impressively flavoured beer satisfies all parts of the palate. Roast malts 

dominate, but hoppiness rears out of this complex blend. 

Schiehallion (4.8% ABV) 

A cask lager, brewed using lager yeast and Hersbrucker hops. A hoppy 

aroma, with fruit and malt, leads to a malty, bitter taste with floral hoppiness 

and a bitter finish. 

Top Dollar (4.0% ABV) 

Amber coloured, the beer has toffee aroma but plenty of citrus too. The 

taste is delicate and zesty, this comes from the blend of hops from around 

the world including Pilot, Cascade and Styrian Goldings.
