The Course:
GCE A level ICT (AQA).
ICT engages the logical and creative parts of your personality. At a technical level, you’ll need
to know how information actually gets from wherever it is stored (like a server) to where it is
needed (like a mobile phone). But there is a creative side too, in this case this is how will that
information be presented on a tiny screen?
What will you study?
Year 1
1 – Practical problem solving which introduces you to the various hardware and software
technologies used in ICT and how you can apply them to different applications in real life.
2 – Living in the digital world. This gives you a solid grounding in ICT areas like transferring data,
backups and the interface between people and ICT systems.
In the second year of study you cover technology developments, how to manage ICT projects
and the use of ICT solutions within organisations. In the second section you will get hands on
experience designing and developing your own solution to a real ICT system.
What skills will I learn?
ICT helps students develop a number of skills including:
• How to assemble data and assess its quality
• How to investigate facts and use deduction
• How to put over your point of view, fluently
• How to work as a team to achieve results.
Students who take ICT often also take Business Studies, Maths, Sciences or Design and Technology
– so whatever you want to do, ICT sits comfortably in the middle.
Results
Grades obtained in the GCE A level are high with a usual 100% pass rate.
