St. George’s School, Aachen
Dear Parents,
We have sadly come to the end of our academic year 2010/2011 and the Summer break is upon us. We have all thoroughly
enjoyed our year and the pupils have achieved many things for which they should be very proud.
It is with deepest regret that I must inform you that our Patron, Mrs Wirtz, will be retiring from her role as Patron at
the end of this term. She has been a huge asset to our school and a key player in the promotion and representation of
St. George’s at numerous events throughout her time here. Our pupils have benefitted greatly from her commitment
and dedication towards our school, one such example being the laptops in the IT suite, which Mrs Wirtz kindly donated.
She has been an inspiration to myself, my staff and the pupils and we would like to express our sincere gratitude
to her. She will be greatly missed - although she promises to visit the school from time to time. We very much look forward to her presenting
the prizes to the pupils at our Prize Giving ceremony, which will take place on Thursday 14th July at 14:00 in the main hall. We hope
that you will all join us in wishing her all the very best and happiness for the future. Thank you Mrs Wirtz.
We would also like to thank all of our pupils and parents for making the year so successful and parental support has been invaluable, and
greatly appreciated.
We wish you a very happy Summer break and very much look forward to seeing you all again in the new academic year,
beginning Thursday 1st September.
Kind regards,
Mrs N. Burggraf
The Dolphins have been out and about again. It is so difficult to
keep our little Dolphins cooped up. They have been so adventurous this year. We recently
went out
to the country to visit a dairy farm. We
had been study- ing different
food groups and
we were interested
to learn where milk,
cheese, yoghurt and even ice
c r e a m c a m e from. We had
so much fun on tractor and
horse rides and we played in
the hay. We have had some
wonderful days!
Year Three has been practising their estimating and measuring
skills using a variety of measuring methods. After recording our
results Lucca said that he really enjoyed using the trundle wheel
(which measures metres over a long distance). Our next Mathematics
lesson will be focusing on creating block graphs of our results.
We also discussed the importance of Health & Safety whilst carrying
such a Mathematics investigation.
Year 4 have been talking about the colourful and exciting advertisements
for St George’s that have appeared in and around Aachen. We discussed
the criteria that an interesting and successful advert needs, and made a
list of things it should have. “Why don’t we make our own?” suggested
Edda. So we did, and here are the fantastic results! We think these
should be in and around Aachen too!
