OUT OF THE BOX: The Junior Primary play was a huge success and the girls performed beautifully on stage

Dear Parents
Wow! I am sure you will all agree that the Junior
Primary girls performed beautifully on stage
this week.
When we were told we only had three weeks to
rehearse, I was a little concerned to say the least.
I should have known, however, that the St Mary’s
community would come to our assistance in every
way possible.
My thanks go to Mandy Collins for writing this funfilled
script, to Ros Wood-Morris, Marileen Botha
and Candace Kentridge for their direction and
Noticeboard
choreography, to the class moms for all their hard
work regarding costume design, sewing, make-up
and ticket sales, to Jane Samson and Alison Sher
for their help with costumes and artwork and lastly
to my enthusiastic and creative team of Junior
Primary teachers who never fail to pull together all
the loose ends.
I am sure that you will all agree that the girls learned
a great deal from this experience.

The Sinking Feeling

Three days ago, Madison Kay, age 12, and Max Kay
age 18, had a terrifying time in the Amazon.
They were in the middle of the rainforest, camping,
when Madison slipped into a three metre-wide
puddle of quicksand. She shrieked and kicked while
her brother tried to calm her down.
Max found some dry wood and lit it. He took off his
shirt and started making smoke signals, signalling
for help.
A passing jet saw the signal and saved Madison and
Max. “I probably would have died if Max hadn’t sent
that signal,” said Madison. “Oh, and one more thing,
watch where you step!”

Goofy falls down a mine shaft
Goofy was dramatically saved from a life time in an
old mine shaft last Tuesday. Goofy was on his way
home from Claerabell the cow’s house when disaster
struck.
Goofy was looking at a sign outside the new flower
shop. When he walked off his usual path and walked
right into a dump mine and within a few seconds
Goofy had fallen into an old mine shaft.
Fortunately Goofy had a phone that has a special
button on it. The button lets Mickey Mouse know
where Goofy is. After an hour of waiting Goofy was
finally rescued.
Minnie Mouse helped Mickey find Goofy and after all
this she said, “If Goofy did not have his phone I don’t
know what would have happened.”
When the rescue team had finished checking Goofy
for any injuries, Minnie Mouse walked Goofy home.

TENNIS
The A and B Teams played excellent tennis to beat APPS A and B in
an evenly-contested tie. Adentayo Adentunji played an excellent
singles match to beat her opponent by eight games to one. The
St Mary’s D Team beat St Andrew’s B Team. Congratulations to Basetsana
Molepo, Ntshembho Msetwene, Samantha Trinder-Smith and Courtney
O’Shaughnessy on winning all their doubles matches. The St Mary’s
C Team lost to a strong St Andrew’s A Team.
Well done to all the players and keep working hard.

HoD: Junior School Sport
CONGRATULATIONS: Luciana Mordoh competed in the regional
Rhythmic Gymnastics competition and came third overall in Level 4,
with a silver medal for hoop, a bronze for rope, a bronze for ball and a
bronze for free dance. She qualified for Gauteng Provincial colours and
has been selected to represent Gauteng at the National Championships
to be held in Cape Town during the week of the 5 to 9 October.
