COURSE DESCRIPTION:<br />

This full-day Friday conference is designed to provide an update on current topics<br />

in pediatrics and adolescent medicine. Ample time is alloted for participant<br />

interaction within each didactic presentation.<br />

Optional Thursday evening or Saturday morning hands-on high-fidelity simulation<br />

training is available (first-come, first serve basis) on infant/pediatric resuscitation<br />

scenerios and emergency procedures.<br />

Learning objectives:<br />

• Identify methods to address sexual risk-taking behaviors with teens<br />

• Describe how to evaluate and treat depression and attention deficit disorder<br />

• Discuss the basic principles, “spirit” and methods of motivational interviewing<br />

to help patients reduce behavioral risks and improve treatment<br />

adherence<br />

• Describe two intervention strategies to motivate resistant patients to engage<br />

in behavioral change, whether for substance use, obesity, exercise,<br />

medication adherence or other health issues<br />

• Review human papillovirus infection, immunizations and tips on how to<br />

improve acceptance of HPV and other important immunizations<br />

• Identify methods to support mothers with breastfeeding and optimize<br />

feeding supports<br />

• Identify clinical guidelines and management techniques for<br />

pediatric/adolescent upper respiratory disease<br />

Optional Simulation Training: designed to improve competencies in handling<br />

emergency situations: airway management, intraosseous fluid administration,<br />

chest tube placement and emergency deliveries
