Know How: Grooming
Dogs have different hair structures. An adult dog has 1000-9000 hairs on a square centimeter. You distinguish
between long-haired, short-haired, wool-haired and stocky-haired breeds. Puppies have considerably
less hairs. Furthermore, there are breedings with less hairs.
Basically every type of hair needs a more or less elaborate care. Indeed the dog does parts of the job itself
by licking and rubbing his fur, but the humans should support him nourishing his fur, erase the dirt and felt
and nurse the skin. These care entities don’t just clean the fur and skin, but can also prevent affections of
vermin, enhance well-being of the dog and is conducive to a closer relationship between dog and owner.
A matter of course is erasing the vermin. Ticks can easily be picked by tick tweezers. Further affections
should be prevented by using for example parasite-drops. A further matter of course is regular washing and
shampooing of the dog. The special shampoos can help maintaining the health of skin and fur and support
the well-being of the dog.
Sleek-haired dogs need least grooming. Heavily soiled fur should be washed with moisturizing dogshampoo,
for example Egg Shampoo, Herb Shampoo, Shampoo with Tee-Tree-Oil, Mink-Oil Shampoo or Jojoba-
Oil Shampoo and then gently be blow-dried.
A brush with nature bristles or bristles made of plastic is suited for removing loose dirt. Loose hairs can be
removed with for example the Fur Care. Alternatively, one can use a glove with rubber nubs. Brushes with
special massage-nubs or wire brushes with nubs are suited for massages. Brightness can be delivered by a
brush with nature or plastic bristles.
Rough hair needs a little more care than short hair. As well as short hair, rough fur should also be cleaned
from strong soiling by using a moisturizing shampoo like Egg Shampoo, Herb Shampoo, Shampoo with Tee-
Tree-Oil, Mink-Oil Shampoo or Jojoba-Oil Shampoo. Subsequent, the fur should gently be blow-dried.
Loose dirt can be removed with a wire brush with nubs or a brush with nature or plastic bristles. Following,
the fur should be brushed with a fine or medium fine comb. Loose hairs can be removed easily with the Fur
Care. By using brush with rubber nubs or a wire brush, one can massage the dog’s fur.
Long-haired dogs should be washed with the Greyhound Balm Shampoo. The contained creme-conditioner
improves combability and prevents entanglement.
Potentially already existing major entanglements can be removed with a scissor. Minor entanglements can
be removed with a detangling comb and a comb with rotating bristles.
Dirt can be removed with a wire brush and a brush with nature or plastic bristles. The latter gives the fur a silky
gloss. After brushing, the fur should be nursed firstly with a rough comb, optionally with rotating teeth, and
subsequent be brushed with a fine comb, to remove even the lowest knots.
Loose hairs can be removed easily with the Fur Care. Alternatively one can use a so-called slicker brush.
Roughly soiled stock hair needs to be washed with moisturizing shampoo like Egg Shampoo, Herb Shampoo,
Shampoo with Tee-Tree-Oil, Mink-Oil Shampoo or Jojoba-Oil Shampoo.
Slight soilings can be removed with a wire brush with nubs and a brush with nature or plastic bristles. These
brushes also make the fur shine silky.
Loose hairs can be removed rather effective with the Fur Care. It is proper for removing undercoat in spring
and summer. Alternatively one can also use a so-called slicker brush.
The fur becomes shiny by using a brush with nature or plastic bristles. The fur should be brushed with a fine
or medium fine comb, optionally with rotating teeth, to remove possible knots.
