The 10th Anniversary
Gala Roast
This year represents the 10th anniversary as a M.P. for
our popular Larry Miller. We need to celebrate this
accomplishment in style and have some fun at the same
time.
On Friday April 11, 2014 at the Bayshore Community
Centre in Owen Sound there will be an exciting evening
reception, dinner and program for over 250 guests.
The reception including cash bar will be open from
5:30pm to 7:00pm and provide a chance to meet
and mingle with Larry and Darlene plus family and
friends locally and from the Ottawa Hill. A display of
Larry’s memorabilia from over the past 10 years will be
accessible for all to see.
The sit-down dinner will
feature an outstanding
menu by The Green Door
with complimentary wine.
Afterwards, Jason Kenney
M.P. will be the headline
speaker followed by a team
of M.P. friends who want to
roast Larry. But, he gets the
last word.
We expect a full house
and a memorable evening
for all who participate to
recognize our outstanding Jason Kenney M.P.
representative Larry Miller
and his wife, Darlene. Tickets are $150 per person with

Ninth Annual Larry Miller Appreciation BBQ
served by the Kinsmen Club of Hanover. Folks danced
and socialized to the music of True Country, featuring Sue
Murdoch and Trish Hawkins.
Larry and Darlene Miller had a special guest with them
this time, Lisa Raitt MP for Halton and Canada’s Minister
of Transport. Lisa was in the area and was available to
join our guests for the BBQ.
As usual, the sun shone on the Annual Larry Miller
Appreciation BBQ that was hosted by the McConnell
Family in Kilsyth this past July. This event is sponsored by
the Bruce Grey Owen Sound EDA and has been held at
the McConnell Farm since its inception. A good reason to
paint their barn blue !

This event is held annually and all constituents in the
riding are welcome. It is just a fun day to come to the
country and enjoy a very pleasant afternoon of music
and friendship. This is Larry’s opportunity to thank the
constituents of the riding for their support.
Don’t forget to mark your calendar for our 2014 BBQ to
be held Sunday, July 13th, 2:30-5:00 at the McConnell
Farm in Kilsyth. This is our 10th Annual BBQ and music
will be provided by the Beckett family and other special
attractions such as Ed Ruth, a bandmaster like no other.
Miss Grey County 4H Ambassador
Over 340 people attended and enjoyed complementary
beef, bison and elk burgers as well as hot dogs. All burgers
are from local suppliers and were served up by a large
team of volunteers. Refreshments were also available and

Miller Christmas Frolic
On December 6th people from Tobermory in the
north to Grey Highlands in the south, braved a
snowy drive to the Shallow Lake Community
Centre for the first annual Christmas Frolic. Doug
Downey and Brian Tannahill were joined by
their bandmate, Geoff Stevens who delighted the
crowd by being there and entertaining everyone.
Since then, Geoff passed away and we as an
Association extend our condolences to his family
and friends. Thanks for the memory, Geoff! Those
who attended enjoyed an evening of good music,
dancing, refreshments and camaraderie including
Larry and Darlene Miller. Many thanks to Carol
Reaney, Shirley Johnstone, Mary Dickson, Anne
Cameron, Sharon Norton and Sue Brown for their
assistance.

Larry Miller MP Notes from the HILL

Dear members,
I would like to start by wishing you
a Happy New Year and I hope that
all of you had a merry Christmas.
There are many issues on the agenda
for the Government in 2014 and it is
shaping up to be a fairly busy year.
For myself, as Chair of the Standing
Committee on Transportation,
Infrastructure and Communities,
there will be several topics of
discussion ranging from Canada Post
to the safety of the transportation
regime in Canada.
Furthermore, another important
issue that will be up for debate this
coming session will be Bill C-559,
The Reform Act 2013, a Private
Member’s bill put forward by MP
Michael Chong. I and several other
MPs have announced support, in
principle, for this bill. The bill would
restore local control over party
nominations, strengthen caucus as a
decision-making body and reinforce
the accountability of party leaders
to all caucus. Therefore, this bill
would directly affect you, the local
riding association, and give control
back to the local associations for the
nomination process.
2014 also marks the 10 year
anniversary of my election as MP for
Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound. In light
of this, I have been asked to share
some of the achievements as MP
that I am particularly proud of. In
my time as MP I have successfully
passed two pieces of legislation
through the House of Commons.
The first is the Heritage Lighthouse
Protections Act that seeks to protect
heritage lighthouses from renovation
or removal before there is local
approval of the action to be taken.
The second bill is the Transboundary
Waters Protections Act which
protects Canada’s waters that are not
protected by Provincial legislation
from any form of bulk removal. I
have also had the opportunity to
Chair several House of Commons
committees including the Standing
Committees on Agriculture and
Agri-Food as well Transportation,
Infrastructure and Communities.
All of these achievements though
could not have been made without
the support of the local riding
association and from the residents of
Bruce and Grey counties. I thank you
all for your continued support and
assistance.

BGOS Conservative Youth Association
Are you or another young person you know
interested in becoming a Young Conservative? Young
Conservatives like me are given the opportunity
to immerse themselves in the many opportunities
available through our Young Conservative initiative.
In 2013, we attended and helped out at fundraisers,
visited Ottawa for two days and sat in on Question
Period, and some of us even got to attend the
Conservative National Convention in Calgary last
fall as delegates. We are eagerly waiting to help out
during the next election and on some of our upcoming
fundraisers. We are always looking for more young
people to join our Young Conservatives and if you
or someone you know may be interested in joining
or you have any questions, feel free to reach me on

2015 Federal Election Readiness
The next Federal Election is scheduled for the fall
of 2015, therefore your EDA is gearing up already.
Team Miller is busy preparing all aspects for election
readiness.
Team Miller needs YOU! There are opportunities for
both full and part-time volunteers for many tasks. We
have a job for you and you are needed. Please drop us

for this purpose is in this newsletter.
Christmas Reception
On December 17th, our B.G.O.S. MP Larry Miller and
MPP Bill Walker hosted their annual joint Christmas
Reception at the Bayshore Community Centre in Owen
Sound. The event is always well attended and this
year, despite facing tough winter conditions, around
300 constituents showed up to join in fellowship, food
and a bit of fun with Bill and Michaela and Larry and
Darlene.
We are very fortunate to have two great guys
representing us in Ottawa and Queen’s Park and the
large turnout reflects their continued popularity in our
area. This annual social gives people an opportunity to
meet one on one with Larry and Bill and say thanks for
a job well done. The receiving line was long, but the
guitar playing of Michael Nyman combined with some
awesome hors d’oeuvres and beverages, kept everyone
busy while they waited to meet with them. As always,
this event is a great time for many folks to mix and
mingle and discuss their upcoming Christmas plans
or how they hope to cope with winter this year. By all
accounts the event was a success again, and it was great
to see our federal and provincial association boards
together again at another function.
Redistribution of EDA Boundaries
Late in 2013 Elections Canada completed its review of
all EDA boundaries across Canada which had numbered
308. The announcement created approximately 30 new
districts but also created realignments in the majority
of others. The 200 or so impacted have to go through a
complete “re-founding” process.
Fortunately BGOS was left intact with its current
boundaries and a population of over one hundred
thousand. Most of the new EDA’s, as you would expect,
are located in the growing urban areas.
The Last Word
In Bruce-Grey, Owen Sound we are fortunate to
have two dozen dedicated volunteer Directors who
support our M.P. and the Electoral District Association
throughout the year. We encourage others to join the
Board or the various committees to ensure that we have
a broad representation throughout the area. Youth
(14-30) are especially needed to help grow our Young
Conservative Group which is active on the Board,
participates in Association activities and undertakes
educational experiences.
With an election on the horizon in 2015, this is the time
to strengthen our volunteer base, memberships and
donations. We would be pleased to receive your e-mails
or phone calls indicating your interests and involvement
on Team Miller.
Take time now to renew your membership from 1 to 5
years and to send a donation for election readiness. The
EDA will have a web site operating shortly to facilitate

2014 National Newswatch
A dozen federal MP’s made The Canadian Press (CP)
list of people worth watching in 2014. On the list are
people, such as, Jason Kenney and Jim Flaherty plus
our own Larry Miller. The CP refers to Larry as “a well
respected anchor in the Conservative caucus”.
